Fairly quick mouse-sketch, no reference.

you did totally capture that summers day feel..... too bad its not like that hear *raining* i agree with charles o'skuro, it looks a little flat, i think what would really add to the depth is perhaps in the way way background add something recognizeable to the eye, like a tree to show scale... if the viewer sees how small the trees are in, in the background compared to those in the foreground it will knock that background waaaay back and create more depth in the painting..im still really lovin it tho! berry berry nice

Hi balistic -
Here is a two bit, unsolicited half assed repaint of a fine image. That's pretty amazing for no reference; I tried to add some more contrast, to make a more distinct foreground vs background. What do you think?

Heh I was initialy looking for a render. Fooled me for a minute there
Very nice. Did you use Corel Photo Paint? I remember hearing that you use it for some of your stuff. if so would you mind explaining a bit about how you use it. Couldn't find a way of mixing colours on the canvas and selecting them quickly when in brush mode (Alt+left click in PS). How do you do top stuff like this?
Anyway Exelent for no no ref (or wacom )
btw- I think your onto somehting there Francis. that adds a LOT of depth. Nice going |

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Francis: your contrast tweaks definitely help space things out . . . sometimes its hard to see the forest for the tr . . . . nevermind
Rinaldo: Yeah, its Photopaint 8. Most things work almost exactly like Photoshop, except with more options and sliders . . . I'm constantly finding some new tool I didn't know existsed. This image is the first one I've done where I've played much with paper textures (albeit subtly).
n8: I did this in about an hour while I was waiting for a render . . . and painting with a mouse really isn't the hinderance a lot of people assume it would be. I mean, if you're painting and not drawing, neither a mouse nor a stylus is all that close to what a brush on a canvas feels like . . . though I have to admit, I'd love for somebody to invent a pressure-sensitive mouse
Good equipment doesn't hurt either . . . I use a MS 2-button scroll mouse on an Everglide Giganta surface tethered to a Mouse Bungee. It feels ridiculously smooth . . . and it has the added benefit of increasing my rail accuracy
Thanks again guys!

Ballistic- So how do you go about things. I'm going to get the app for a few complicated reasons (It's not worth explaining). It looks like it has a lot of nice features. like the texture and art brushes etc but I just couldn't work with it. Can you be bothered giving me a few tips. Like I said before I couldn't find a way to mix colour. How do you work with it. just a general idea of what tools you use and how you get set up the shortcuts. just for painting, not anything else.
It's just that I really wanted to give it a go but I couldn't get anywhere with the demo.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

I'm actually not quite sure what you mean by mixing color . . . I tend to just pick something out of the palette and go for it
Do you mean use the eyedropper tool to get an average of the colors across and area?

When I work in PS I use opacity on the wacom. (or with a mouse from time to time I use the number keys to get different opacity)
I move around by holding down the space bar and dragging. I mix colours by putting something down and then going over it with a particular opacity and Alt+clicking (turns brush into eyedropper momentarily) what I want. I use the [ and ] keys to change brush size but I think you can click and drag to change in Photo paint.
If you just go for the colour palet (heh pretty good eye for colour) then I suppose You can't help me tho
It makes it a lot quicker to do things. I can blend colours by overlaying them and then picking whatever happens.
Sounds like we work differently, so I doubt you can help me but thanks anyway |

there's a key for it, I just never use it . . . let me see if I can find it in the Help index (manual is at home) . . . looks like the closest thing I can find is that you can press the "e" key to get the eyedropper, but then you have to hit another one to get the brush back . . . not quite as elegant as Photoshop in that regard. I did however find a little mixing palette by double clicking on the eyedropper tool . . .
you can load up any image you want in there and then mix colors on top of it (the color bars and additive circles are the default).
That's probably a lot more interface than you're used to though

Heh. I think I'll find it too slow but when I get it I'll see. I'm not stressing about it. getting the app anyway as well as PS 5.5. I just thought it looked like a nice mix of PS and painter and wanted to give it a go.
Hey, are those some Hash made sculls? trying to kick some lightwave ass Heh.... Go for it.
Thanks a bunch man. much apreciated ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |
