when your making it THAT red you'd better make the people bloodier. like scars or blood dripping down from conan. and yeah the way you mirrored half his torso/arms looks a little to obvious... and some parts where its supposed to be black its grey instead, llooks weird but has probably to do with your gamma...

Strong men, shiny armor, blood flowing, nude whores... don't you guys ever get sick of it ?

Vebjrn, I know you're doing it for work. Don't get me wrong, the pic is well done

Another amazing painting. How long does something like this take to complete?
I like the red feel to the picture I think it emphasizes the fact that Conan is holding a freshly decapitated head.
The only thing that bother me is the woman's left leg looks a little short.

Very nice, vebjorn!

Couple 'a comments: with such a strong light source, some harder edge cast shadows would help, such as the shadow from the head and under the arms. Also I would think that the highlight for the pecs would be higher up, as they are facing up a little. This would help your definition between the pecs and the deltoids as well.

the picture overall does feel a little too monochromatic, which I think comes from toning your values with black and white, rather than with color. Try using the complementary color to darken rather than just dropping value, the image will still seem red, but the overall colors will seem richer.

Four things, nothing else. I really like the image otherwise...er uhm, five things...I saw one more thing ...
1. The arms-the anatomy of the forearms looks a bit weird. THe brachialis muscles under the biceps look like the pivot points for the elbow rotation. The forearms look like they would swing downward to the ground in a 90 dgree arch, not up and toward his head. THe flexor and extensors need to be clearly defined and divided in the forearm, so the arm will convincingly look like it will work properly. Right now, you have a round buldge atop each arm, looking like one large round muscle. And with the arms, there is a tapering effect that occurs in the arm, from the shoulder to the wrist. Your arms level out at the biceps and remain fairly consistent all the way to the wrists. THis could maybe also be addressed...
2. The feet need a bit more silhouetting to them to better define at least the perimeter edge of the legs. They get a bit lost with barely any solid edge to still retain the form with.
3. The girls left knee starts too high up the thigh making it look more like a scar than a knee. The lighter red marks just to the right of the flat division of darker value should be removed altogether.
4. THe chest area is a bit too contrived geometrically. The cast shadow from the head part. Just too planed out like a right angle. There would be more slope in the shadow, with clavicle influence trailing up to the shoulders. And less tapering from the chin. Your cast shadow suggests pointy chin, and the chin on your guy is flat and strong.
5. The red is way too strong in the background. THe left and right side could use the same type of treatment as the top, only not going to blue, but to deeper values of red, so the two remain separated for what they are.

That is all, my fingers are sore. I like where you are going with these. Really starting to see more of your hand in the modelling. Are all these paintings done in painter, or do you do any photoshop work?

Bye...

Ron

thanks for the comments. I`m currently distancing myself from the image, so when I return I can see more clearly. After sitting exactly 2h.51mins(yes I actually timed it to see how fast I could do an image I had in my head)... in a 80% painter and 10% photoshop(mostly color adjustments and layer/scaling/flipping work)

Thanks for going into the details Fred. I`ll do fixes and post it when I`m done, I`m just going to get response from the publisher so I only have to go over it once more.

Maybe I am offending you but what I see is just full of Venetian Red. (too strong so many painters avoid this color...)
