I am evil sometimes. But for good reasons. This guys name is Erik Gist. He is also a game designer, and he is teaching at the Watts Atelier with Jeff and I. He is really good but seems to not think so, so I am kicking his ass into gear by grabbing all the stuff of his that is on line, and posting it here. Hopefully, he will answer you guys if you say things about this stuff.
Come on poeple, punch him in the arm a bit, make him see he's acting funny about his abilities...thanks for the support of a fellow artisan... ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Neato! This stuff is cool, and I need to see more. The figures look like that "Fixler" style you were talking about before? Unless I'm mistaken about that. Maybe you could enlighten us a little bit regarding what that's all about (Fred or Eric; or Spooge for that matter).

Eric - that stuff rocks! Don't start battling Ron for the deluded modesty crown, that's a pointless exercise! Whip out that new Wacom and join the fray! Can't wait to see more of your original designs... and yes, I'll get my homework done...
Post that barbarian sketch you did at the con, too.
Phil.

I don't need your pity, and it's EriK.
The "Fixler Style" actually goes back to a guy name Frank Riley at the Art Students League in New York. I learned it from Jeff Watts. For more info checkout www.wattsatelier.com

You might want to convert that last pic you tried to post to jpg or gif. By the way.. if these are not worthy of this forum, then I should just quit trying to draw right now. Your stuff is great. |

Thanks Francis. Original was 18x24. It was a demo done at the Watts Atelier booth at the San Diego Comic-con.
Please ignore lifedrawings they're 6 months old or so much better now.

What kind of fruitcake are you Erik that you think you're no good? Try looking at it this way: If you're not happy with where you are, there's no better place to improve that I know of than right here! So get your ass on here, or change your name from Gist to Git. That good enough Ron? ^_^

In defense of myself, all things ar reletive and when on a regular basis you not only see finished art work by people like Ron, Phil, Jeff and Robert Watts, not to mention Francis and many others, but also get to see many of them perform their magic its motivating yes, but frustrating at the same time. By the by as fast as you might think Ron is he's faster.
P.S. I am blessed with a great environment in which to work so please don't think I'm complaining, just giving perspective. |

Ooops! Sorry 'bout the spelling Erik. My dad's name is Eric so it's force of habit...
Love the new creature sketch. Are the front legs reverse-articulated? Kind of suggests that from the toenails...
And as for winning, I'll try my best... |

Yes, very good stuff indeed Erik! I especially like the color paintings (what medium.. oil, acrylic, gouache?), and the trident-spear warrior drawing. Some nice designs in there too.
Go ahead man , show us more ! And welcome to the forum.

Are there other reasons you are not interested in posting here?
maybe like, well, lack of interest?
That's cool, I like what i have seen so far, would love to see more but suit yourself.
I would like to hear of the history of the Fixler Approach. Anyone know it? i looked at www.wattsatelier.com but did not see anything related to it's history. I have heard of Frank Riley, strangely enough.
If anyone is interested, Carter Sexton in the valley has a whole bunch of Loomis originals hanging up as decoration. WORTH seeing.
6 months old life drawings! hah! I will not tell you were I just posted some steamy 10 year old ones. Like 2nd year of school old. And I let Joachim talk me me in to that one! Spooge wan some candy? come on, come on that's a nice spooge... |

Darlin' you dont have anything to worry about, not being good enough... if you keep that frame of mind dear, your going to miss out on the wonderful feeling you get when you finish something you actually like, and any one of those sketches/painting up there would give me that feeling.
In other words, your stuff is beautiful, so give it up, your good, your staying right here. pull up a chair
my personal favorits are your rather unusual monsters like uhm... a kitty/lizard think without the head and the other lizard thing up here.
post more if you can, we welcome you with open arms hun.

Christer, the Amidala is done in gouache, the life painting of the guy with the challis is oil, the rest are either charcoal or graphite pencil.
Honorable Mr. Spooge lack of interest is definitly not the reason. I've been checking out the form fairly consistently since Fred turned me on to it, and have learned a lot from many of the artists here particularly you, but I felt I had nothing to add that would not be merely a regurgitation of the mighty Flick Stone. Now that I'm here you won't be able to get rid of me.
As far as the Fixler Aproach goes this is what I know for sure, Fixler taught at a school in L.A. I believe called The California Art Institute(not CAL-ARTS) he learned from a fellow named Frank Riley at the art students league in New York with some amazing artists such as James Bama (recently voted one of the 12 most influential contemporary artists by Art of the West)and John Asaro. It has been rumored that Riley was a student of George Bridgeman who was a student of one of the Atelier system in france were the thought process orginated, other artists to checkout who were students of Fixler are Morgan Westling, Greg Pro, Glen Orbik, Jeff Watts, and Mark Westermoe. I know there are a few others, but I can't think of them right now and there are a new generation of Riley decendents including our very own Fred Flick Stone who I know has collected some info on the lineage and can correct my misinformation and fill in the gaps.

No gaps to fill really. Frank Frazetta studied with Riley, as well as I believe Robert Mcginnis. The technique is from the French School of thinking, damn them, love em and hate em just the same...Andrew Loomis studied with Riley also.
Fred Fixler would never have started the school out here if it werent for Glen Orbik and another guy, I think Mark Michealbrock.
And the rythym goes on...I will try and get more info on the origins of the technique itself if anyone is interested... |
