Ok, Ive noticed a few threads on here about art schools. So I thought this would be a good time to ask for your help.
I'm designing the website for my "Art school"
And it would be of great help if some of you could take a little bit of time to visit the site and offer me any suggestions that you might have about the navigation and information.
There is alot of stuff missing because our semester has not yet started and It's been impossible to get a hold of the faculty for info and images.
I'm more interested in what some of you look for in an art school. What are the qualities that you find more important? These qualities can be your own opinions, not what you think they should be. For example, if you visit a schools site, what is the first thing you head to? The student gallery, faculty info, what ever.
Your feedback on anything about this site is very welcomed.
I'm the only person working on this thing so, most of the feedback I get come second hand, so i don't get to hear all of the bad stuff.
One more thing before I post the url, The site has to be simple enough that it can updated by someone with no or little knowledge of html or web design. So for those "what was the words spooge used?" oh yeah, propeller heads out there keep that in mind.
Here is the url
http://www.etsu.edu/design
thanks for you time folks, this will really help me out.
If I get enough responces, i will print this thread out to show it to the department chairman. |

The lightning on the very top button with a logo is diferent from the rest of the site, its coming from lower right instead of upper left. On mouseover it is right though.
I'd make the labels on buttons a lot brighter, its impossible to read them without scrolling over them.
Otherwise its pretty cool. |

your site doesn't look bad, it serves it's purpose, but you could make it a little FLASHier...hehe.....get that navbar in flash and make some things move around in a "stylish" sort of way. Plus, loose the grey, maybe white or black. maybe i'm getting too into this.....i'm finished |

I like what you have done so far Sam.
Though I would darken the text on the left nav bar when the mouse is not on the rollover. Also the background gray of the center logo is a lighter gray from the rest of the gray in the background. Did you want this effect?
Since the site is about streamlined navigation and you WANT visters to feel like they can command where their going, I WOULD not use Flash as LethargicBoy suggested.
I like the rollovers you have done. Also the gray and blue colors are great looking I think. Also the nav bar for the faculty page fits in great with the theme.
Looks like a lot of content you had to put up I commend you on doing a very good job.

I had no idea sam wanted streamlined navagation, it dosen't have to be totally IN YOUR FACE flash....ok ok...sorry, my office is going totally overboard on flash design and it's rubbing off a bit |

Hey folks, thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming.
Originally, the background was black, but it made the site look to "empty" and everything I put on it stood out too much, it didn't seem integrated enough.
Flash would be awesome! But it would be too complicated to update by someone who doesn't know html, let alone Flash.
I always thought something was wrong with that top logo on the left navigation, Thanks for pointing that out Plop.
I didn't notice the light gray Farwalker, I'll have to fix that. And the navigation buttons are too light, I agree. That will have to be fixed as well.
It's great to get some feedback from people who are not involved with the site.
I'll post another thread when some more significant changes are made. Until then I'm still open to anything and everything.
Thanks again.
