Wow, great lighting Balistic.
Lighting is so important in making a realistic 3d scene.
You really did it well in this scene.

I think lighting is one of the most underrated skills in 3D . . . It pains me to see someone do an awesome character or evironment and then spend about a minute-and-a-half lighting it.
As an aside, Jeremy Birn just wrote a book called "Digital Lighting & Rendering" that would be a really valuable resource for intermediate-level 3D artists. There's more info here:

And thanks for the feedback!

This image rocks...you did this in Hash? You are the king of that program...I never got along with it all that well, Victor, who used to work here at Presto made his Alien Song with the program, that blew my mind that he was able to do what he did with it. But these images, and the ones on your web site are just Dynomite... |

This is something I rendered the other day for an internal project we're working on. I only did the lights and textures, the models were done by a girl named Alicia.
There aren't any image maps in it, all of the surfacing is done procedurally.
Its not really a stand-alone piece, I just thought it was a cool study.

I've always liked Hash. The mentality, the price, the product. Got ver' 8 earlier this year. I'm always amazed at what it can do, and a lot of the features are very smart. But MAX is the stancdard for Games and I must conform apparently Darn!
Reeeealy nice render Balistic. Pass on my complements to the modeler |

Thanks Human, Fred, and Rinaldo!
Hash is defintely a very flexible tool, at a price that nobody can touch . . . though I think far too much emphasis in 3DCG is placed on what tool one uses, instead of how one uses it.
Its all just pixels in the end
Alicia will get a kick out of your feedback, she's only been doing this about a month.

If this is Hash, I think it's the perfect argument AGAINST paying too much for all that high end stuff. It's the talent, not the tools.
Great pic. Nice soft textures. Very convincing.
