Hi, I painted this unfinished boring head to learn how to use that photoshop thing for painting:
Not very expressive, isn't he?
I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions, but I'm more interested in any tips for choosing colors and shading, I think the shapes are not well defined.

thanks for the suggestions, I tried to follow them and that's the result:
I tried to add another light source (very soft) but I don't think it worked.

Look and paint heads either from life of from photos. Life preferred.
Hmmm, your comics look nice, you have a good handle on drawing.
I remember that scene from Forrest Gump (sorry) where someone gives him a ping pong paddle and says "never take your eye off the ball." He then becomes a world-class player.
So in a similar light, paint what you SEE and not what you THINK you see. Do it REALLY precisely at first.
I am sorry if this seems patronizing, but I tell myself this a lot, and I don't listen often enough.

Thanks spooge.
You're right, I NEVER use reference, always found it boring and/or frustrating.
I'll use it more, if only for practice.
Now, I'm going to start running until I get tired! (err...that was supposed to be a Forrest Gump ref. but I'm translating and don't remember it well, so ...) |
