I have a question that just occurred. I have a picture to post, so I won't put it over in the other forum.
If Satan is the "Prince of Darkness," who is the "King?"
Sorry, and heres the pic.

well the obvious answer to your question is Mr Bill Gates , but as homer once pointed out when he discovered that Flanders was the devil , its always the one you least expect.
Your picture is brilliant ( as par usual ) and I really love the helmet.
thanks for brightening up a dreary day at work. |

There are some options:
*) Mephisto
*) Beelzebub
*) Lucifer (more rooted in the Old Testament, name means "The one who brings/holds the light")
To be honest.. mythology does not speak of a KING of darkness as far as I know.
But there is a "king of the dead" (Hades for instance).
Maybe this is because Satan-mythology evolves not from greek mythology where there was one "God"-Ruler(King) for everything (Nature, Light, Hunting etc.) but from the Bible where there is only one accepted "King" - Jehowa/God. Satan evolved from the fallen Angel Lucifer as far as I know, so he is only prince. Thats at least my explanation.

That is soooooooooo cool I love fantasy/medievil stuff.
Have you got a bigger version...pleeeease
I'm seeing a new Background candidate.
Looked into medievil armour much before? it looks really cool.
Some of the stuff you've been posting lately shows a really good imagination Spooge. your design of form is very good.
I feel that you present yourself as a bit of a technical person as opposed to a creative person. Just the feeling I've recived from reading some of your comments. Do you have an opinion about this. I remember you saying that all your skill is teachable?
If so I would disagree, you have a definite style that reaches furthur than purely technique.
you must get sick of hearing how good people think you are non?
Dunno about the question. whenever I start talking about religon I get in trouble.

I really like the form, texture and lighting you gave to the helmet, as well as the blood stains all over it.
But seeing as how the helmet is lit, it seems awkward that the face is so dark.. Unless of course you wanted the face to be very dark, to give your image a sort of message as though he really is the "King of Darkness".
And another question: If King Arthus is the King of Darkness, what/who is excalibur and Merlin? |

heres an answer: theres no such thing as the devil.
i love the image, very simple yet it has a good feel to it. do you sketch out your paintings first then paint over them? i dont know how else you could unless you have a wacom. see, its impossible to paint out the basic shapes with my mouse since its so jerky, so i can never get anything defined well, and my scanner is broken so i cant scan my sketches....so how do you do it? |

Ahh, sweet, I love the fantasy and medievil stuff you do Spooge.
My favorite is one of the paintings you did for the Lord of the Rings movie.
With the hobbit, Gandalf and a war all happening in the same piece.
Have anymore paintings commissioned for the Lord of the Rings movie you can show us?
With a dizzying amount of brush strokes you create such an amazing mood in your paintings. What a joy it is to have you on this board.
Rock on Spooge!

According to a New-Age mumbojumbo:
Lucifer is the 'former' king. Satan has taken his place. Satans ambassador is the devil. |

i don't understand how anyone can say something "doesn't exist."
there is nothing certain about things that aren't tangible and in front of us to see.
there may be a devill...may not be.
there may be an afterlife...there may not be.
everyone has their opinions...but anyone who says that either way is certain...either knows something more than i know or is closing off his mind to all possibilities.
oh and sweet pic.

I think we should drop the religion subject... I can see it's escalating rapidly... And religion tends to cause major flame wars |

Tinusch is probably right.
Anyway I would recommend reading Nietzsches "Beyond Good and Evil" or whatever it is called in english ("Jenseits von Gut und Bse" in original)- it has some very interresting thoughts about this subject. |

I like this one also, yey. The edges on the armour are what attract my eye in this one. Hmm though for some reason from all the King Arthur books I have read, which are many, I always had the idea that he was rather young, not this regal aged man. But hey, just my opinion. As for who is the "King?" I say why not God? He is King over all according to the Bible, so why not King of Darkness too? And that's as far into the religious debate as I'll go. Tata!

HERE'S THE ANSWER:
Satan was once in the service of God, he was his head honcho of the angels. When Satan turned on God, he was sent here to rule. If God is King of everything, there can be no other, since His kingdom is not exclusive to heaven. Satan is powerful, and thus is refered to as the Prince of drkness, but the title of King, belongs to the ruler of all things, God. |

Hmm thanks for the enlightenment on just who this satan fellow is. I thought he was living in that yellow house down the street... different guy.
psiburn, This one was a little different. I did a drawing first. In line... gasp.
Know what I want for Christmas? Micke to do me an overlay that I may learn.
Here's the full scale Rinaldo. Thanks for your kind words. I was trained as an industrial designer at first, so sometimes the objects I do kinda take over things. But on the good side of things, I see a lot of very nice figurative artists who can't anything but. Too limiting, but we have only one lifetime.

Snake Grunger, the idea behind the dark skin is 1) old leathered guy; 2) this increases the apparent brightness of the reflective armor. Similar idea if you wanted to make someones white clothing look their whitest. It is also kind of a camera trick, you expose the bright armor well and everything else goes dark, cause that is what it is in comparison to the bright stuff. The blood dripping is black, and we all know that blood is not black, but is dark enough that in this value system, it occupies a very dark place. More with that dark stuff....
Alias moze,
noodles? what you talkin bout?
Fred, what a cryptic thanks you! What? WHAT? Did you learn! Tell me, cause I dont know!

I think that the King would be nothing other than evil. If your going to be evil then you must keep doing evil. So Evil is the king which rules the devil..
Fred Flick Stone reminded me of something that I though of sometime back.
What is genius?
Would it be what you know, or what you don't know...
Ok, think of it like this.
Einstein, Considered to be the genius of the last century.
But, all he did was ask the right questions. Right, well almost. He found the answers to the questions that he didn't know.
Same goes with art (painting).
Wouldn't you agree?
Craig is considered to be a genius here but, maybe he knows which questions and how to ask. To get the answer that is best communicated.
I think it is all just your perspective.
no right, no wrong.
Just a different perspective..
