Hey, I just installed Win 2k on my sister's new computer, and saw how awesome it is, so I partitioned my 18 gig HD, Assigning C: to win 98 with 4.6 gigs for games, and the rest 14 gigs to D: for Win 2k. I installed Photoshop v5.5 on both drives, and it works fine in Win 98SE on C:\, but in Win2k, I open up a new pic, and make a stroke with anything, then the second I press the mouse button down to make my second brush stroke/eraser stroke/whatever I need to do to click the mouse button, the computer just freezes right there. Win2k!!!!!!! C'mon!!! It's supposed to be Uncrashable!!! WIN 2k!!!!!! ARGG!!!!! Does anyone know why this may be? I assigned less ram, more ram in Photoshop settings, should I try changing virtual memory in the properties for My Computer icon? OIE!!!!!!!!! Help me!!!!!!!

Thanks!

POP QUIZ : Anyone know what a Nephilim is? I just found out after a strenuous 2 weeks of searching, just wondering if anyone else knows about this word.

Its not win2k dude, works flawlessly on mine. I'd reinstall it in 2k, you might have some bad or missing dll's.
Could be anything though. Are you overclocked? Could be cheap ram.

Win2K? Uncrashable? windows is always going to be tied to backwards compatibility, which basically means that all the old bugs that made it crash will still be there, perhaps patched up a bit.

I'd submit this as a bug to microsoft & adobe..

as for a fix, i can't say. it looks like it works under win2k for others .. perhaps try removing the ps in win98 to see if there was an odd DLL conflict?

It could be a hell of a lot of things, from video drivers, to input drivers, to ram, motherboard/chipset (w2k compatibility), etc. Some manufacturers are not yet up to date with W2K specific drivers, that could be a problem.

I've been running W2K flawlessly for over 6 months, with photoshop.

There is a known bug with photoshop and Direct3D applications running at the same time (using AGP). The 3D hardware uses the AGP port to transfer data from the computer memory to the video card, and there's a bug under W2K where the AGP bus is disabled by photoshop, which causes a crash if you're running a 3D application elsewhere in the background. This bug will be fixed in the upcoming Service Pack for W2K.

Not sure if this helps at all, just relaying my experience. Actually on second thoughts it doesn't help at all, so just settle around the campfire folks, Uncle Gerbil is gonna babble you a tale.

I had problems with win98se and photoshop 5.02 locking really hard with repeated brushstrokes. I didn't have an exact number, but it would still be pretty quick. After several reinstallations of photoshop, I discovered it was the pentium 3 optimized files from the site. So, err, well, that's my story. Umm. Yeah, I'll go sit in a corner now.
