I'd like to get some input on how you guys make your drawings. Do you consider using the line tools and filters "cheating" when drawing? Do you use dodge and burn, or choose the appropriate color because you know the correct one to use?...
I guess to sum it up, what tools ( in photoshop ) do you guys use to make your drawings? I would be interested to see who uses straight color picking and drawing with a tablet and who uses other types of methods. Personally, I use all the tools in photoshop to get my results, but I'm interested to know how other's do it.

I usually just use the paintbrush, choosing the colors myself and painting in with the opacity box checked. Sometimes I'll use the airbrush instead, if I want a smoother look to it. I use the eraser too, of course. |

A dull Logitech mouse...
I've got a question too:
-how much do you set your opacity if you paint with the paintbrush?

Photoshop5.0-
Tablet - Wacom 5x6
tolls most used:
Airbrush(j), Brush(b), Eraser(e), Pain bukket(k), Full screen (F), X (change colors back and forward),
DOnt use dodge and burn at all. line tools and filters are used when needed.
I dont use Filters to make artwork, like you see on most websites.
I also use lot of layer effects when it comes to webdesign.

Layer effects are exactly equivalent to filters.

I use all sorts of filters when doing my artwork, especial noise and distortion filters when doing textures, and no I don't consider it cheating, as long as that's not the only thing you do to an image.
I've seen too many logos that are just text with various EyeCandy and Xeno filters applied to them... and they usually look like shit. When I use a filter, I ALWAYS alter it in some way afterwards. As far as dodge and burn, I rarely use that because I keep my colors and shading seperate in most cases, and dodge and burn require you to do it on the color itself (unless you're using a later version of Photoshop, where it becomes a layer option... I use 3.0). If I'm "painting" I use combinations of the paintbrush and airbrush, and smudge with a high opacity percentage for touch up.
I use my Wacom Intuos 9x12 serial for most things, and my mouse for more precise work (like when I go in and do pixel adjustments). I use a relatively old (but "new as it never got taken out of the box... it's been sitting in some store's warehouse for a long time I guess) Microsoft Natural mouse... probably the first ones to use the wheel. I'm thinking about getting a new one as it's not all that accurate (often moved 2 pixels when moving it around slowely... quite annoying).

I use a Intuos 12x12 in photoshop. In PS I usually use a load of tools not just a set three or whatever, the ones I'd use least would be Airbrush , pen tool ,ruler and sponge.
