This is my second PS painting, done strictly to get used to digital painting. Nothing original going on here. It took 3-4 hours. Done mainly with the round brush at 50% hardness (I'm talking about the brush here)and the opacity setting checked.
I am loving this program more and more!
I experimented with the smudge tool to soften it up, but ended scrapping it. I like it rough.
Quick PS Tip: use the brackets keys "[]" (not parenthesis) to quickly change brushes. Great for varying the brush stroke widths in the painting. |

Hey, very nice work. A couple of more of these w/ the model in different positions would make a nice portfolio piece =)
Can't really give too much painting advice...don't feel that qualified. But looks good. Blurring your eyes a little, and it looks photoreal....the forms read well, good lighting. Keep it up.

Gaaahhh!! Looks awesome! Is this from photo, or just really good figure invention? The hair is exceptional, has a lot of volume and softness without a lot of noodling. the highlight from cheekbone to nose is a little odd, maybe, and I feel like she's missing the profile of her lower eyelid? perhaps some separation underneath. But, well, spectacular!
Welcome to the forum!

This is beautiful. Photo, post the reference...there are a few strange things anatmically, but those can be overlooked for the moment, post the reference...
Very nice transition of value in the flesh down the form. Where have you studied, or have you? A lot of the people on this forum are pretty damn naturally gifted...
The only thing a bit unusual, and deceiving is the same use of white in the reflective light on the dark side, and the white light over her shoulder. One should be warm, the other cool. It might be a color, but the jpeg compression makes it look white...
This is very nice work, can't wait to see more work, and welcome aboard... ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Looking pretty decent. Could you post a better quality jpeg? The compression has introduced all kinds of awfull things within your soft edges (contrast echoes). You might wanna experiment a bit with your brush shapes. Try painting with harder brushes (25%-0%) to get some sharpness when needed.
Love the lighting..
Danny

I don't have the technical skills and stuff that Fred does, so I can't point out flaws or give you a really helpful critique, but that is just beautiful, man. Absolutely beautiful. One of the best I've seen. Two points really strike me with their realism: her right shoulder and hand. Woweeeeeeeee.
Can I touch you, Fat Assassin? D'you think it would rub off?

Is that 100% size or was the original painting bigger? BTW, that was from a photo or you have a very "kind" neighbour ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/tongue.gif) |

Wow, really neato. Did you use a hand drawn
sketch or did you paint it right onto
the screen? If you did (or not) Great.
I doubt the eyelashes need to be changed
but the hips; more percice the line comming from
the p*ssy looks stange (correct me if im wrong).
Still great!

Thanks for all the feedback. I figured a picture of a nekid chick would get a lot of response. I put up a better quality jpeg based on a couple of the responses. Funny thing is, it looks lighter here than it does in Photoshop. Might be the color settings in PS, I'll have to look into that.
WacoMonkey: It's copied from a photo that I had opened in Photoshop at the same time I was painting this. Also, I sampled the colors directly from the photo, which was a really good lesson in how colors change over a body, and how sometimes the color you perceive isn't the actual color.
Fred: I'm posting the reference at the end of this message. I chose it because 1) She's a babe, 2) I really liked the lighting, especially the rim lighting. I plan on doing a couple more studies of those old glamour photos from the 30's and 40's. Those guys really knew how to light a subject. As far as where I've studied... Cal State Fullerton for a while, the animator's union in L.A., and soon the Associates in Art, plus a lot of study and practice on my own.
Brishen: No, you can't touch me.
Jorge: It's 50% actual size.
Thanks again for all the encouragement. After I've done a couple more studies to get more used to working in Photoshop I'll do some original pieces and put 'em up.
Cover your eyes kids...

Sp! Oh my...
Flat Assasin, Looks good! i think you could get more out of this by making your strokes and shapes reinforce the forms as opposed to following the color and value shapes.
That is one bizarre lighting setup. I can feel the massive screens and reflectors hovering over my head.
You see that wonderful purple that is on the top inside of her right breast? From the sky? Exaggerate that.
Oops, here come my wife, better hit the submit button... |

Fat Assasin,
eerhm.. one word of advice would be to NOT pick colours from your reference pic. You'll end up learning very little actually. This is what I dislike about using digital reference as opposed to conventional ref. like magazine clippings (or no reference for that matter). It's too easy to 'cheat'. Especially with the colour picking. By doing so you don't train the eye to learn and evaluate colour and value. They're just there up for grabs.
Another thing is that a colours found in scanned in media, depending on their quality, are often grainy, like pixel confetti. Looks okay at 100% but odd close up. So quite frequently tints in scanned images are are mixture of slightly off-key colours thrown about in ordered chaos to re-create a certain tint rather than the actual 100% accurate colour itself which you would want to paint with. By picking from a source as this you run the risk ending up with less than accurate colours.
Also, as both the original and your painted version are displayed on the same monitor side by side it'll be extremely easy to match colours even if you didn't pick straight off the original.
The RGB/HSV colour system computers work with takes some time to learn and understand.
My advice is to have a go at painting something directly from your immediate surroundings. A desklamp, your computer casing.. anything analogue. You'll train the eye that much harder and more effectively!
Happy painting and God bless..
(damn that Bob Ross threads' still in my head.. )
Danny

Anyone else think this resembles the renaisance? When all the best artist gathered together, staring at beautiful nekid women, and got away with it cause it was art? Man, looks like we've returned to a glorious time. Here's to the study of ART. heh...

I've nabbed that photo, and since printed it out so that I'm not reduced to *digital* reference *hehe Danny* and will post a quick drawing (I don't paint) soon...
