I just bought a wacom 6x8 and I am going to attempt to teach myself how to draw, paint, etc... on this tablet...my questions are as follows...
1. What is the best way to teach yourself how to use this device?
2. What shouldn't I do?
3. It came bundled with painter classic - is this a program worth installing ?
4. Any websites that cover wacom uses or tips from past experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks people

I am the most newbie of any human (or thingy) living, but take a look at my message "Dribble in envy". You'll see one thing that can be made really fast (ok, not hardcore, i'll admit it) and other it took some more time. It's not for you to admire (he, he) the pictures, but just to suggest Painter (even in Classic ver.) is a very powerful tool. It is intended to paint with natural resembling media. Install it.

er... just to clarify. I dig myself a hole to bury myself into each time some guy around here posts an example of his/her quicksketches suitable for the Sixtine Chapel (sp?). Do not understand I'm dying of proudness when seeing those 2 pix of mine. |

answers to the question:
1. Use it every day. Til you drop.
2. Don't stop doing it!
3. for starters, yes.
4. working with a tablet is easy. - adjust the settings panel to your needs. trial and error is the best way.
There are now 'wacom fanpages'. Probably because it's so easy to use. Just don't put it too close to the monitor - otherwise you'll get interference from the monitor and your cursor (& brushstrokes) start to jiggle ...
That's all - now go get painting!!!!!

hey I got some general q's on the wacom tablet -
1. is it easy for lefties to use?
2. do you guys usually hold it on your lap or on a desk?
3. can you lean your hand on it, or do you have to float your hand in the air?

Virotype -
I've only had mine for a day but I think I can answer your questions..
>1. is it easy for lefties to use?
yup
>2. do you guys usually hold it on your lap or on a desk?
ive tried both positions..i don't know what the real pro's do..but i have found that placing the tablet in front of your monitor on the desk seems to provide the best comfort zone....when the tablet is on your lap it kinda moves around and for technical drawings I can see that not working at all
>3. can you lean your hand on it, or do you have to float your hand in the air?
yup..u can lean your hand on the tablet ..although u dont always want to do that cause the pen tool is pressure sensitive and will give you different results when place at an angle...
I wonder how many people buy the air brush tool from wacom... so far i have got some great effects in photoshop with just the pen tool...is the air brush tool that effective?

Freddio - I actually dabble a bit with oils I have never painted "on a computer" and from what I understand it's like learning how to paint all over again...ill post my first few attempts when I get a chance to play with the painter program that came bundled with my tablet.
