Alright, well, I started screwing around tonight trying to figure out a way to incorporate a simple gif animation with sounds and a cheesy gradient swipe in order to pull of a nice looking animation such as Ninja without painstakingly pixeling every frame...and here's what I came up with...
1. I went to www.download.com and got ABC Video Roll 2.5 (free, and almost as powerful as Adobe Premier, but a SH*T load of a lot cheaper)
2. I grabbed a couple of cheesy gif animation I had done a while back and opened them into the A timeline...
3. Next, I went into my harddrive and found a .wav file and added it to the B timeline so that it corresponded with the kick in the first animation...
4. After that I dragged the two animations so they overlapped each other and a default transition was added...
5. Next, I rendered the piece as a low quality, 15 fps .mov file...
And *tada*, there you have it folks...I hope this helps any of you out there, I am planning on using this technique for an animation I am developing at the moment.
This may or may not be the best technique, but it results in a well done animation (if you actually work hard on it)
here is what it looks like http://www.geocities.com/golongria/animationtest.mov
email me if you have any more questions..

Why not... go for the easy option and use Flash??? It's way more powerful than any gif animator...

Golongoria,
It's good idea, but I don't think it will do it all. For compositing, like premier does, Afterfx is far the best program. Because, in afterfx you can actually blend between frames and add stuff or modify colors, etc. But, The big problem is how to animate the frames. To animate like 15 or 30 fps with Imageready or any other program I know of would be a pain in a but or rather impossible. And, that goes for flash as well, every flash movie I've seen is more like an animated storybook more than pure animation. Because Flash with 15-30 fps would just frame like hell. So, some good animation program, I don't know which, and after fx & phshop would do the trick. It's just were would it be best to make the raw material ?

Flash has the onion skin mode which, I would think, should really help with the animation... but then again I haven't tried flash yet since I got my tablet, so you probably know better.

Void: Right, and money grows on tree's. Well, it does if you live in Arizona and grow large crops of marijuana, but thats a different story.

Just wait a little bit more and pick up DigiCel Flipbook http://www.digicelinc.com/price.htm
It works just like a good animation program should and will output Flash (so no more having to deal with the crappy Flash interface). All for $299
and it's done by folks who use to work for Team AXA. |
