well, painter 6 came after 5, so it's the latest improved version.

classic is the cheapo version that somes with every wacom-board. classic means it's OLD ...

Old is also a synonym of "stupid" in computer-related language.

I've got Painter 5 & classic(the one that comes with the wacom tablet). First of all, I should mention that I use only a small subset of P5's tools because I mainly work in painter the way I would in traditional media. My favorite Painter abilities are its ability to rotate the orientation of the workspace and its ability to make custom drawing tools(I like making lots of airbrushes in different sizes and opacities). Briefly looking at Painter classic, it has the workspace reorientation function too, but I can't find the custom tool making stuff.

BTW:The wrap-around painting mode(very cool mode) is accessible from the pulldown menu in classic. I had to dig thru the docs for Painter 5 to find the same function.
