Hey everyone, since lots of people here are really good and landscapes and such Im hoping I could get some help on this one.

Anyways this is only my second real background, theres a lot of problems with it especially the color palete. Does anyone have any tips on how I can do this without me getting to the point of no return?

Well - it's a good start!
But, a very simple question first:
Where's your light coming from? What's the time of day?

Also - you might want to block out the water too - just a simple, plain color, you can build upon wheen you're tightening that baby up later.
The palette will also be determined by the light ...

thanks for replying, well the light is coming from the front, somewhere in the middle. I would like to make the time of day normal daylight but a little foggy(if that makes sense), so there wont be any really strong lighting but enough to know its day.

Ive never taken a -good- art class, just stupid highschool ones, which we only learned how to cut cardboard... oh and glue! talk about life skills. Though I did take Photography and learned a little about light sourceing, just not color since we used B&W film.

when i'm coloring a picture i like to browse through my photoreference directories and pic out a couple of photos that have interesting color schemes. i open these alongside what i'm working on in photoshop, scale 'em down nice & small, and pick the colors directly off. i like to use at least 2 or 3 photos for color reference tho, so that i'm not just copying the color range of one person's work.

thats what Im trying to do but I would like to switch the time of day around, because I can only find pictures with either daylight or sunlight. Hmmm Bob Ross has tons of foggy paintings, but I cant find any of his online gallerys. I think the rocks close to the viewer are to dark? When I get back on my new pc Ill brighten the contrast and lighten them up. That bush is just horrid.

when i'm choosing what pictures to use as color reference, it doesn't matter what the photos are OF. i'm just looking at the range of colors they use, and trying to imagine how those colors might fit into my drawing.

for example, when i colored in a drawing of an office building i used a picture of a tank firing into a forest, and another picture of a tank driving through the snow. a great range of greens, blues and oranges. ..and that way i'm not tempted to copy the forms from the photo.
