i'm not sure if anyone else took the opportunity to color in francis's sketch, but i did. figured i'd start a new thread, since the other one is so bloated.
so, hats off to francis for making a real nice concept sketch that we can take many different ways. here's my take:

May i critiqe?
If the thrusters are on on full blast like that the ship would just speed away the next nanosecond into this poor guy infront of it. poor fella.
Looks nice but a bit airbrush-blurry in some parts.

yeah, the thruster thing doesn't make a whole lot of sense but i couldn't resist.
i guess my only defense is that maybe the engines are just warming up? who knows.
with the comments about the 'airbrushiness,' could give some examples of where it looks too blurry? with lineart i like to keep colors soft and let the lines still speak a lot. more like watercolors i guess. i wanna understand what you're talking about, tho.

I like it. Not exactly sure what they're refering to by airbrushiness, but for stuff like the blast from the thrusters, the line art showing through really bothers me. Also that blurry white coming from the upper right is err well blurry. Yeah. I lost myself again.

I like it.. I dig your use of it as a sky depot rather than a death star-ish one.. the lighting looks right.. but I agree.. the thrusters should be off. That poor dude doesn't stand a chance and it might get the landing gear stuck in the elevator shaft.

by accident, i had a peek at my picture from work today, where my screen is at a much lower resolution, and suddenly the whole thing looked like a blurry mess! what a pain in the arse, but at least i know what you guys mean. i think my next experimental coloring will use ALL paintbrush and NO airbrush, and we'll see how that ends up looking...
thanks again guys & gals
