I'm really trying to work on my perception and anatomy...so lately all I've been drawing are naked chicks and my fiance is starting to wonder...
anyway.
I just finished sketching this, and I wondered if anyone could offer suggestions on how to make it look more realistic (besides the scribbly sketch lines)...
Thanks,
-Alicia |

Heeeeeeey, Aliciaaaaaaa.
You know, it's so nice to know that you've had this experience, too. My entire family thought I was gay when I started drawing so many naked women. Not that there's anything wrong with that....
Anyways. I recommend a good anatomy book. Unless you're going for line art, shading provides the contour needed to give a body shape and tangibility. I'll post a pic of mine so that you can see what I'm talkin' about. It's old. And, yeah, it's a shamless plug.
And, because we all know that this never works for me, the link: http://www.pages.about.com/brishen/femalenude.html
I hope this helps you a bit. I really encourage you to continue with this!
Jess

Sorry Jess, you're pic is broken.
You do know who this be, right? =)
Anyway, Josh has a really good anatomy book but unfortunately, it doesn't help me much. My perception is just terrible and honestly, I've never had a chance to sit and stare at a naked woman before so I couldn't even begin to know where the shadows go, etc.
I hopefully will be starting classes at Brookhaven CC here in Dallas in the spring...I'm praying they offer a life drawing class.

Wait. When you say that I should know who this be, is it that I know you from somewhere else or that I should know.... Oh no, I'm confused.
I'm going to stick a fucking fork in my eye. Why can't I figure out how to post a pic! LOL

I don't get it, Al. Fill me in. It's late and I have no mental faculties left with which to solve the riddle. |

wait.. your family thought you were gay for drawing some many naked women? That doesn't make sense to me. I would think they would think you're gay if you draw naked men... |

Personally, I'd think that would make us heterosexual. We're a couple of chicks. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/biggrin.gif) |

I get that alot. My name is Alicia, and I'm female....most of my friends call me Ali. Nope, I'm not Indian either. (well, if you want to get technical, I'm native american but that's neither here nor there, is it? =) )
and yep, lol...I was referring to Tobine.

Brishen,
I took the liberty of heading over to your little site and checked out your pictures. Besides the interesting neon yellow hair, I was really blown away by the drawing of the bald girl. The Painting of it could use some help, but still great fundamental linework. Just thought I'd drop that in here.

what do u mean u don't have a woman to draw from reference?! you ARE a woman! stand and stare at urself in the mirror. wear something skin tight if ur self conscious. have ur fiance take a polaroid of u just standing there in ur skin tight attire and then draw from it. or u can get an anatomy book, but this is so much cheaper! (being 15, i dont have the spare cash to go buy anatomy books :P) or u can surf the web and find pictures, although that might really make people wonder...
anyway, perhaps someone who actually knows should reply, because i probably know less than u do about figure drawing and stuff. |

I think you will find it easier to begin to draw with 3d shapes. Like a cylinder for Legs and arms.. spheres for shoulders etc.
Or just work from a simple line model, add the 3d objects to them and then shade etc.
I hope this makes any sense. I cannot explain it better without pictures, and I am not good enough in this to draw pictures to show what I mean.
You could buy a book like drawing comics the marvel way or something with anatomy and drawing in it to help you out a bit.

[edit]I just read you don't know where to find reference pictures for female form.
You can try to find some sites with "fine art nude photography" or something similar.. although you will most probably find some very.. "graphic" sites this way and your parents may look stange at you.
this could help maybe:
[contains nudity.. of course]

Alicia-deem nothing worthy of nothing I can't seem to get to all the new threads that pop up. I think I'm on top of things, but then I realize there is a whole other page of new stuff. Wow, so many new members...
I liked the boobs image, very paintery. Sorta Van Gogh meets digital...
This one is a bit scratchy...not complete thought immediatedly. Nothing wrong with doing this, especially if you are new to drawing, especially in digital...
Figure drawing of anykind will help make ends meet. I see that you might not have that much experience with drawing the figure, so I really can't give too much in the way of crits...other than keep practicing, and keep posting. Find a way to make art with photoshop, but practice with traditional supplies as well. It is a very important part of the art learning process.
One minor thing, when you pose a figure on a page, try not to cut off any little tid bit of the figure, in this case, the elbow. Especially if you are going to show most all the figure, might as well show all of it.
Keep up the practice, and post when you have stuff.
Welcome aboard... ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |
