You all know I love posting my partially completed stuff so that I can get other opinions on it before it's too late to correct mistakes...So here we go... This is going to be a full-body poster (18x24") of a vampire huntress dressed in black leather and chromed plate mail holding a H&K UMP .45 SMG. This is the shot of her face with the steel facemask...
See ya guys later...

Her right eye is too far to the left. it should be partly obscured by the nose as opposed to being all the way out like that. Have you had a look at fred's eye tut?
I do like those smooth lines tho. |

I agree with Rinaldo about the eye, and
i think her shoulders are a bit too wide for a woman. or maybe her head is too small.. (i'm no expert on anatomy, i'd get a second, third and fourth opinion if i were you.)
Those lines are really nice.. do you draw them by hand, or do you use the path tool?
oops, i didn't see you already replied.

I do all my stuff freehand.
The path tool is cheating
If you want, I'll post a tutorial on how to successfully do really precise lines using two tools, in Photoshop... Takes about 30 seconds to learn, and comes in damn handy because you can vary your line thickness so widely.

Oh about the shoulders...
Generally, the shoulders are 1.5 heads wide -- Add onto the fact that she is wearing bulky leather and platemail shoulder pauldrons, and it comes out to be right.

I have to agree that her shoulders, at first impression, look a bit wide. I think this is because of the way her head is tilted - it looks she's bowing forwards more than anything, which (since we've got kind of a side view), makes it look like her body should be turned. The way you drew it makes it look more straight-on, so her shoulders look too wide for the pose our brains expect.
If her body IS straight on... well, that's more of a pose I associate with a teeny bopper than a gun-totin' vampire.

Vis-how abotu this for the eyes. Whatever side your reflection comes from, the opposite side of the eye is going to catch the refraction. Also leave a tiny space to the right of her right eye, otherwise it looks like her eye is barely attached to her face.
Post the whole body too, unless this is it, so we can evaluate the whole pose.
I like the style, really clean.. |

Thanks for the suggestions, guys!
Waylon:
When you see the whole pose in a few minutes, you'll see why her shoulders look wide...Because her body is facing the camera, but her head is tilted down and away...
Fred: Thanks for the tips on eyes... I can do eyes fine from the front, but I have problems at different angles...hehe -- The image you see below, doesn't have the corrected eyes by the way...Only the entire pose...
Several notes on this image:
1: It's scaled down from 3600 pixels wide, to only 900 pixels wide, and then the extra white space that will eventually make up the background was cropped out to save file size
2: I left the merged photo of the H&K UMP .45 in there for size reference. The UMP .45 is 17.85" in length, 27.14" with the stock extended as you see it there. That gives you the reference to her height...She's pretty fecking tall...About 6'2".
When looking at this pose, imagine the magazine half empty, a dead vampire that's already burst into flame and been eaten away lying in a smoldering heap in the background, and this image takes place right before her giving a toss to her head saying "You want some of this, fucker?"

You're right, her shoulders look a lot more appropriate now. Her body pose could definitely be saying "you want some of this, fucker!" But (and I hate to say it, because you've got them looking really good!), her eyes don't really look at all angry, or dangerous. Maybe it's just the way the eyebrows are set... but you could definitely stand to make them appear a bit more menacing. |
