first off let me add my voice to the adoring chorus of praise for the quality of art posted on this forum. i haven't painted in years, but seeing some of the posts by fred, francis, micke, wacomonkey, spooge and the like, i decided to whip out my stylus and give it a go. this is a work in progress so please play nice (as is probably apparent the neck, shoulders and chest are particularly underdeveloped.
i was getting board with the image by the time i got to the neck so i crop it, fudged it and generated the latter two. at this point i'm a bit stumped as to which design to continue with or if i should just call it quits. so please critique away... and in particular if any of you have suggestions as to composition please lay it on me. if you want to see a bigger version of the middle one go to www.pixeljock.com/sijun/Naomi_shdow.jpg
thanks

I really like this picture, a lot.
You need to keep the neck and shoulders in the image. As to how to deal with them. If you don't feel like trying to hammer them out as they are. I suggest throwing a turtle neck sweater on the young lady. Something in the style of the 60/70's.
But I am pleading for you to not to crop the neck and shoulders out.
I do think if you really want. You might be able to pull off having a light source directly on her face (darken, the BG). Darken the shadow on the cigarette, and etc. |

"micke likes it." seriously though thanks for the praise coming for you thats pretty sweet.
as per dgordon and Freddio's suggestions, i "finished" up the shoulder and such. still don't know where to go with the composition though. i was thinking of a crop like this...
but i'm not sure, i still kinda like having the darker chest. any suggestions? i was sorta hoping fred, francis, micke or one of the other masters would just draw over it a bit and save me the trouble of trying to figure it out
i REALLY hate ubb
