I'm curious, what do all you artists (especially the seniors..) think of Bob Ross? Do you think he actually has talent, or is it just refined skill? If you don't know who I mean, Bob Ross is this artist that bombarded our TVs in the 70s and 80s with a big afro and such catch phrases as "let's give this beautiful little tree a happy little friend" :P

Well, I can't watch him for more than 5 minutes. I think there is more method there than madness. It looks to me like he has learned to make about 8 things and he just changes the color and relocates them on the canvas.

I like Bob Ross-good mental outlook, good painter(despite what my art teachers all said-not that any of THEM could paint worth a damn), liked animals. Ya got ta ac-cen-tuate the positive!

Bob Ross was the shit..his big ole afro and all...
Not much of a great painter, but so damn fun to watch. He I think, helped invent all that gawd aweful spraycan art on cardboard, you know, the trippy psychedelic sunsets with spaceships flicked into them and such. Vennice Beach I think accumulated all those artists...

Three cheers for the valume addicted afro havin', squirrel on his shoulder kinda guy...

Old Bobby boy was good technically, but in terms of origionality, he couldn't paint himself out of a dead rat. Like it was stated before, he was good at trees, good at mountains, and good at scary little shacks, all he had to do was find a different way to mush them together every week.

I've never heard of Amano before, but his stuff is pretty amazing. The Genji images are sooooo pretty, and the Tristan & Isolde "paper opera" adaptation looks mighty good too, not to say that the rest of the stuff on his site is any worse...

B- Alright! Someone else who learned from Commander Mark! I remember coming home every day from school and sitting down with my pad and pencil to learn from him and his green-dragon-hand thing and that sort of fruity lookin robot. I can't remember any of their names now. Good show

Is it just me or did that green-hand monster always seem to scare the hell out of Commander Mark? I mean, it would drop down at random while he was drawing.

Remember every show how he would work on that huge mural? I don't remember ever seeing that finished, but it was cool. I've always loved that Dr. Suessish style. Go here for those of you who don't know who
Commander Mark is... http://www.draw3d.com/

i used to watch bob ross as a kid, never did like 'im even then.. he painted the obvious. i found myself thinking 'alright, a forest with a few flowers. no really' gah, but i can't deny he was fast and had cool hair. commander mark's flourescent highlights bothered me, but he did sounds effects while drawing, so he was cool.
sorry for the griping, but i was one who didn't like colouring books while growing up..

Bob Ross was great, he spit out really good picture in 30 minutes, thats hard. Not to mention he made all of them up in his head. My art teacher hated him soooo much for some reason, he said he was a hack artist and was glad he's dead. The thing is my art teacher SUCKED, he didnt know how to do perspective, he couldnt draw for crap, he couldnt paint for crap, all he could do was use colored pencil's coloring a cardboard triangle thats 4 inches wide and collages(WOOO SKILL!). Me and my friends would see him walking down the hall and yell "BOB ROSS! BOB ROSS!" then he'd turn around and yell "I hate that hack artist shut up!"

I've never seen him, being that I grew up where we only got broadcast Television. But from the sounds of it. Bob Ross makes me wish I had Cable.

I love Amano's Artwork by the way. And I love how he's like the most self promoting artist in the universe. his FinalFantasyIII stuff Got me interested in art again after a brief period off.
