Hi there.
This has been one of those pics where I've just kinda drifted off into dreamy land as I've been doing it.
I'm expecting a bit of heavy criticism from Fred & others with regard to lighting etc. However, I'm still learning. Please be gentle.
I've a lot of enjoyment doing this pic, and I really hope you enjoy it too.

I really like the picture. Surrealistic and very relaxing. I like the way the lighting works. Instead of being bright in the foreground and fading out to a darker shade in the bg, it is reverse. I will leave the lighting critique up to the pros but I really like this picture. Only complaint is you should've made it bigger.

If that light is gonna excentuate the bronze-y colour of the flying things I'd like to see it a bit more on the ice berg (ie; give ice berg a subtle shot of yellow perhaps? I dunno)
anyway, I love the design; the mast thingy is great and i just love that thing that look like a prop driven AWACS jet with a davinci balloon over it!! Class all the way |

Lovely.
The only thing I would change is the composition . . . cutting off the right propeller like that is a bit jarring to my eye.

Hey I like it. And I usuialy don't go for stuff like this. (hard edged, defined simplistic shape stuff)
The comosition is a bit uncomfortable as Balistic said tho.

Hi
That's a very nice piece, and i agree with balistic that you should definitely enlarge the canvas and finish that propeller!
Do you like Roger Dean and Rodney Matthews?

Nice to see the finished piece. I like the strong colours and the sharpness of the whole image. The balloon in the background is a nice touch and are those people I see on the crane? |

Firstly, thanks to everyone for their comments!
When I first started using photoshop, the great attraction for me was being able to undo the mistakes that I sometimes made with my airbrush.
This is why alot of my pics look like Roger Dean / Rodney Matthews stuff is because for a long time I kinda just used photoshop's airbrush as if it was like my Super 63. Instead of laying down tracing paper and cutting out stencils I used the selection tools etc.
I may be wrong about this, but I notice a slight hostility on this board to the kind of airbrush pics that Roger Dean and Rodney Matthews do.
Seeing the work of Fred, spooge, loki to name a few, has really helped to see other ways of painting using digital techniques.
I posted these on Rinaldo's SPEED PAINTING thread, but put them here to show that I am more than happy to do traditional blocking based art.
Thanks again for the comments!
Binke: Talking of old pixelers, I wish I could show you guys some art that my mate JayBee used to do on his Atari ST years ago. In the days when pixel gradients had to be done.
Axl: Yep! Those are little people!

I really, really like your picture Ceenda, particularly your sense of space and distance. Plus the imaginative, peaceful quality. My sort of picture. Crisp and unfussy. |
