Hi Loki!

I really like the pic, the sense of scale is awesome.

I've just been looking at your homepage. Excellent stuff! Those airship pics have a really cool 19th century "Verne"-ian feel to them.

Beautiful image Loki. kind of reminds me of Castle Laputa. Or WacoMonkeys image of the airship in the canyon. I really like the value transition down the walss. And fabulous breakup of the rock wall surface.
Damn keen...

Laputa is one of my favourite animes, Fred. It's amazing that you can spot this, because before and while I made the line-drawing I THOUGHT of Laputa - but didn't loom at anything. You frighten me

Glad you like it - I've got another canyon in the oven, btw, will still take a while til it's done though - since I've got some work to do

theres so much atmosphere in this image, i love how the water fades into a mist as it falls down from the rocky ledge. those blimps look great in that environment, it looks very serene. for some reason, i get the impression that theyre like, "capital ships", dont ask me why...they just look like flying machines of high importance or something.

great work! what was the original resolution of this image? id like to see that

Sweet! Nice job on the rock wall. I could see maybe a hint more bounce lighting off the wall on the right bottom side of the airship, just to define the roundness a bit more.

Very very nice (and I LOVE airships!)

Thanks, Monkee! I love airships too - where's the image that Fred was mentioning? Can I see it?
And yes, I was hurrying on the airship itself - I wish I had put a little bit more color in it!

psi: thanks! I think the original res was 900x1500

yoszi: the original is much bigger than the image posted here. After I scaled it down I ran a sharpening filter over it - carefully though. Also - I usually use a hard brush to paint my stuff - that helps keeping the edges nice and sharp.

AliasMozer: yeah - read the article on the plane to new Orleans - did you also read the box, where they explained that helium is quite rare on our planet?

Spitfire: " ... It lives man!" - that was one of the coolest compliments I've ever gotten in my whole life!!!!!! Thank you so much - glad you enjoy it so much!

I posted mine a few months ago (the only thing I've posted so far, since I don't have a website up, this is the only image posted elsewhere.) Unfortunately it's ultra-compressed for the Myst 3 site, so a lot of the detail is lost.

It's in the archives at:
http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002198.html

Not nearly as moody as yours though! Spooge told me he's done a rework on it & will post it up sometime.

If it isn't obvious I'm also a huge Myazake fan, Laputa is one of my favorite movies of all time.

The New York Times: "Pure inspiration.."

The Boston Globe: "Insatiably irresistable!"

The Chicago Tribune: "Sweet serenity amidst premonitions of impending doom..."

The Daily Oklahoman: "Uh, it looks all fine and dandy, but that thar airship's bout to crash!"

ermm... ok, its late and I'm not thinking clearly.. Nevertheless, the pic rocks loki

Cool, everyone's talking about Castle Laputa, which is one of my fave films.

Check the movies thread on the random musings forum as I mentioned it a week or so ago...

That really kicks ass Loki. As well as all the other pictures you posted while I was on holiday. Really moody and beautiful.

I have just one little comment, You have a very nice way of detailing. But, I think it could be nice if you made some areas a bit more soft in a way. Not like it's out of focus, but more for the shading variation.
Hmm, did that make sense ?

Anyway, awesome work. You rule !

I like the feeling it creates

Will it get boring if everyone get's really good on this forum. there are so many good artist's like Loki here that I find myself giving out compliments at an alrming rate. Will we all become desesitized to good art?

(just kidding )

I agree with Joachim. I like your work a lot, but there's always a lot of sharp details. very hard edged. It would be good to vary it a bit. especialy seeing as thigs are usuialy a bit out of focus in the distance.

Pheww.... this is one of the coolest and most suiting lighting schemes I have seen in a loong time! The rocks are superbly executed.. It kinda reminds me of cenotes. You know, those huge (some upto 100 metres deep) waterfilled vertical shafts you find in certain regions in South America which were used by tribes people in the old days to make religious sacrifices.
Well done Loki.. keep 'em coming like this..

Danny

The detail on the canyon walls is startling. I like the waterfall and the stark white sky that helps to make the canyon feel dark.
