Taking a cue from Carrier, I thought that I might introduce myself as well. My real name is Ken and I'm a full time illustrator at a studio located in Santa Monica. I started work here right out of college with a brief freelance gig at Hanna Barberra before they got abosorbed into Warner or was it Universal. Anyway, I graduated from Art Center in 96 or there abouts. Prior to all this, I was just your run of the mill slacker with a skateboard. Oh, I'm also 26 (I think) and am of Asian American decent.
During my free time (which there's very little of) I play my Banjo and listen to Folk and Bluegrass music. Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, Alyson Brown and Leo Kotke are some of my all time favorites. Aside from that I'm also trying to teach myself Maya (gotta love MEL scripts).
Since I'm new here I may have missed past intros so if any of you care to chime in, I'd be glad to see what your all about.
Late,

proximo - wait a sec - are you on the main campus or the one on Stewart Street?
I live in Santa Monica too, but work at Fox Hills right now.
We should have a little Sijun meeting at the "Library Alehouse" on Main St. - the first round of 'Piraat' beer is on me!
Seriously - I think it's about time for a little get together of us Los Angelinos anyway - is anyone up for it???

Proximo,
Once you go to Henessey & Ingalls, you can kiss all your greenbacks goodbye. Arcana is a great place too for the rare art books. Youshould definitely come down and check them out.
Loki,
I'd be up for it if enough people decide to join in. I'll spring fro name tags.

proximo: I used to work right across the street from your college - at Station X Studios.
And my girlfriend studies (studied) there - do you know any of those people: Bob, Fred, Jamie, Tim, Liz, Karen, Stu????
My girlfriend's name is Yuki ...
Mergatroid: well, I'm all about starting small and letting it grow, because when you try to schedule a huge event, it becomes very time consuming and a pain in the butt.
So I'd rather go for a casual beer at first, meeting some of you, instead of organizing a nametag craziness, where half of the people won't show up anyway ...
So, who's in Santa Monica proximity and has time, let's say next week?
Two or three other people would already be fine with me ... so, come on, join in!

Maybe we can have that party at Loki's flat since he lives in the area or maybe we can turn it into a figure drawing workshop/get together by hiring a model and stuff.
Funny thing, I turned into a member sometime today and didn't even notice. Today is truly the proudest day of my life.

Merg: Well, come over any time - but I have to warn you - I've got my music studio in my living room, and might force you to listen to my music, which would probably end the friendship before it began ... harhar
But seriousle - would you join in if it was just a few of us? It's just easier to organize ... and then we'd also have time to chat, instead introducing ourselves to the fellow 30 artists ...

Yeah sure, sounds fine. If you think your music is offensive try listening to the high and lonesome sound of Bill Munro (the father of Blue Grass music).
Francis,
I believe that there must be some kinda conspiracy with THAT place and our money. Their once a year sale has to be come up more often, like once every two weeks. Its good to meetya.

Thursday sounds fine by me as long as nothing too funky comes up at work. We are talking in the evening right? So where are we meeting again?

Just wanted to make this topic active again for those of you who may have missed it from last night. I believe a few of us are gonna meet here in Snata Monica sometime next week and the offer is open to all so make yourself heard and seen.

Hennessey + Ingall's...two words that get me fired up...that place takes all my money everytime I go there.
Besides Bud Plant Comic Art, H+I is the best art store around...
Mergatroid glad to meet you. Leo Kotke is one of my all time favorite guitarists. A shout toward noon, Standing in my shoes, and my favorite disk has an armidillo on it, his first one I believe, the true pure guitar disk, 6 and 12 string songs.
I would actually like to come up to Santa Monica and meet with you guys. I can only get the time on the weekends, this one coming up being my last free one before our next semsester starts at Jeffs school again. We'll have to arrange something. Maybe get Francis and WacoMonkey to join, and see if maybe Feng and TJFrame are up for it. I thought it was really interesting meeting everyone face to face. You get to find so much more out about each other in person, not torn to threads alone...anyway, maybe sometime soon in the near future we will get to meet. Welcome aboard... |

Fred,
Leo is playing in Anaheim sometime in Sept I think. I hope he plays more of his older stuff but I heard he's great live. If you don;t already have the anthology then you should run out and get it. My favorite album of his would have to be "Mudlark".
Good to meetya Fred.
