Here is a drawing I did last night. It actually took me like, a few hours to do, because I started painting the colors, and then once I got all that down, I added the black lines on top of my color drawing.
Kinda funky, but let me know what you think.
I was going for a real simple shading type, only 3 or 4 shades per color.

Metroid always held a special place in my heart... I loved that game... Anyway, to make it look more sleek, I think you should make the helmet smaller... the way it is just looks kinda bulky. I like it though, good work

Even though Samus was female, she didn't have breasts built into her armor-if she had, then it wouldn't have been a surprise at the end that she was female!

This is sorta a slight redesign upon the same lines as the original.
Forke: The helmet is actually even bulkier in the original game, but I shrank it down, to be a more realistic "Space helmet" size.
Anthony: I thought that her other anatomy would possibly look a little to feminine, and give that away as well, besides, I wanted to show that it was a girl, just because to anybody who knows who samus was, its no surprise that its a girl anyway right?

Damnit. I was just getting Metroid tomorrow and you go ahead and spoil it for me!!! Thanks alot :b
Just kidding!!
Great image, man. Love the shading! Of course, as others have already said, the helmet should be a bit smaller.

I kinda remember the sholders being really big. this might explain the size of the helmet. The big shoulders were one of the things that made you think the character was not female.
Does anyone remember that old Samus HYPER cover by HATTON. Probably not but It was pretty cool.I'll scan it if anyone's interested. I'm looking at it right now and the sholders are friggin huge.
Did the Char design change with the games? If so which one are you drawing?
Metroid on the SNES was such a good game. |

Nice bold colours and lines, I like the picture. I agree with Forke that the helmet looks too bulky but apart from that the rest is good. |

That really doesn't look like a Metroid ... they're the weird jelly fish creatures don'cha'know.
Hehe. Well, I can see where the influence of Samus Aran's suit comes into play, but it's really not her... stop lying to us in the topics!!!
er, right...
It feels like the image is slightly grey-ified... the lighter yellows and reds look like they loose saturation, which is kinda' weird. More contrast might help that.
It looks cool though.
For those of you who just loved Metroid, head over to Tendo Box's Samus Story feature, a must read.

I've been a fan of the Metriod series for quite a while. The sprites are really different in each of the games, because they are on four different systems.
The helmet was huge looking in the NES game, but in the others, more recent game, and in all of the artwork, the helmet was actually smaller than the shoulders, and situated at about mid-shoulder level.
The main changes should be in the shoulders and helmet. Shoulders should be larger and rounder, and the helmet should be all red, smaller, and have a smaller greenish visor that is kinda shaped like a rounded T.
Also, her right arm should have a built in blaster, if you wanted to be accurate.
It's a good drawing regardless. If you were going for a major redesign, then you did a good job of it. It's not that accurate towards the original though.
BTW, it was even more surprising when you found out Samus was female because the game manual said just the opposite. It wasn't an oversight though, it was just to trick you into thinking she was a man until you beat the game or entered the code. |

Did Samus carry a gun?
I think the pic is great. Looks really professional. I agree that the shoulders should be much larger though, so that 1) it will accurate of the original Samus, and 2) it will make the large helmet fit in better.
Oh, and does anyone else here think the original Metroid for NES sucked? |

I like the camel-toe you put in her armor! That HAS to be difficult for her to walk in without getting excited! heheh ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/tongue.gif) |

Ive only ever played the game on the NES, but I know it was on other systems.
The helmet was huge in that version.
I didnt have any box art to go by though, just the game(NES version)
I was going to make the shoulders bigger, which is part of my typical style(Im a huge shoulder pad freak) but I didnt want to go too far.
If anybody has any other pictures of Samus, I'd LOVE to see them.
Rinaldo this means you!
Thanks for all the comments guys. I'll probably make those changes and show you the new version tonight.

I did a search on Metroid and this came up.
http://www.classicgaming.com/mdb/metgal.html
You think the original Metroid sucked? BAH! The original Metroid ruled! So did the Game Boy version! (I played it non-stop on 6 hour road-trip). So did the Super Nintendo version! (although one boss was really hard)
There never was an N64 Metroid. It's really too bad...now I'll never get to play it (hell if I'm buying a system called "Star Cube". What the hell were they THINKING?)
Um...yeah. |

Ok....
This is a cover for Aussie Gaming mag HYPER by HATTON. he has taken liberties with the design but it's such a cool pic that I couldn't resist.
A couple of pixel shots
Probably could have goten these better with a ROM screen grab but anyway.
And if you follow the link that CyberArtist gave there's what looks to be a fairly accurate nintendo illustration a bit down the page. Not sure if I'm alowed to use the UBB to show it here?
But anyway thats all I've got at the moment.
Enjoy

The orignal Metroid is one of my top three fav NES games... right up there with Super Mario and Zelda I. It was the right game for me at the right age I learned all of my monster skills from Zelda and Metroid instruction books.
oh, and Samus's suit in Metroid 1 did have smaller shoulders... they beefed up for the gameboy and SNES versions ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |
