Here are a couple of objects that were lying around on my desk.
I painted them in photoshop using a mouse, just to practice texture and values, each one took about an hour of work.

That screwdriver looks pretty slick.
Mouse....ehh? Must have used a few masks non?
The blue backgroung spoils the top whaterver it is.
I've been trying my hand at this sort of thing, with a variety of different results. The realistic representation is not ahived in the way that you would normaly think. I was supprised how much it's about shape, colour and value as opposed to a truckload of detail.

Thanks Rinaldo.
The top one is a small wooden box. I thought it would be interesting to try and duplicate its texture. (i did a fair job at that, but not as i would have liked it to be).
as for using the mouse- I used the "preserve transparency" option on layers which contained silhoettes (wrong spelling, probably) of the objects. (i actually started each image by trying to get those right.. failed miserably- the screwdriver is quite twisted as you can see.)
This was actualy my first go at drawing real life objects in photoshop- it turned out to be more interesting than what iv'e initially expected. |

It's interesting you know. now that you mention it the screw driver is a bit wonkey. I can see that it is painted now.
It's all about tricking the viewer. people don't tend to "actuialy" look look at things. if the values and colour are about right they skim straight over it like "oh yeah that's a screwdriver". Have you seen that pic Spooge did of his desk with the G3 and stuff. I swore that was a photo first time I looked at it. I mean after I had taken a quick look at it, I closed it because a I wasn't really interested in a photo. But then I sorta thought "Craig Mullins wouldn't have a photo of something that boring on his site" so I checked back....low and behold the bloody things a rough as guts PS image. I mean the G is all sketchy and everthing. I almost died on the spot.
To get that good, to be able to chuck down a few colours and have it look like a photo is awe inspiring.
I think Spooge is sick of hearing how good he is (?). |

Rinaldo- Yep, that's absolutely right..a better example of this can be seen in spooge's latest sketches in the forum.. although the detail level is rather low, the images are amazingly lifelike and credible.
Is this the office image you were talking about? http://www.goodbrush.com/index_pgs/index_images/personal/sd_hideout.htm |

phew, thanks rinaldo you saved me! (.. from having to contact the mafia to capture spooge and put him out of business because he is too good. )
(but look at the lamp on the ceiling in the studio pic.. makes me suspicious)
