Hi all,

I made this image by painting over a reference picture under Photoshop in order to practice light and shadow and to get better skill with digital brush.

It s my 4e digital drawing.

I not an expert (like you can see). I just draw in my spare time.

What do you think?

good lord, thats the most nudity ive seen on this forum yet...well, in that type of pleasant display

the anatomy is right, especially considering since you basically traced the image :/

I have a really big problem with the background tho.
Colours are yuk

rinaldo, painting over an image is no different then laying a sheet of paper on a poster and tracing away... nonetheless, he did a good job of "painting over", if that term suits you best

It's just that things start to warm up when people use those sorta words. The euphemisms tend to atract less negative energy.

But yeah apart from a learning exercise or a comercial venture where time is money (and you can't draw it) tracing doesn't hold much respect.

Not that anyone wants to get into one of those arguments

I know that painting over an image don t have the same respect as an other one made with no background picture. But even with a pict under...its hard to get right!!! You have to got a lot of experience with traditionnal drawing and enough skill and patience to make a good one as realistic as the picture is. Thats my point on this topic!

But, I think, it was good (for me) to learn how subtle are flesh tone on a human body, and to learn how light and shadow fall on the various human shape.

Making this image help me alot to learn how to use brushes and for finding new tricks. I dont had used layer in multiply mode, only painting over.
Last year, I wasn t able to draw someting realistique like this on computer. Experience pay on the go.

I m able to draw form eyes. Now that I m more experienced whit Digital painting, I can start to make an image from nothing.

rene here's an assignment for you..

this is a REALLY hard thing to do, especially on the computer

take the original reference picture you painted over, and flip it upside down. now try to paint the image based right-side up. this was an art assignment i had in a standard freehand art class i took...it was pretty hard to get right in pencil, but trying to do it with a mouse on a computer is really hard. if you practice that way, you'll be awesome at painting off references...

Sure psi burn, I ll try it on day...for fun

I had taken art class too and the prof show this technique. With this, we really saw our drawing like piece of puzzles.

rene : psi burn's advice on painting from an upside down reference is actually a very good way to start doing reference and non reference work.
