Well here's a piece I've only been working on for about a day or two. It's a concept that I've been toying around with. I decided to post three steps: Structural drawing, color comp and relatively finished piece.
I say relative because the last piece is close but not yet done. I need to work on the fireplace as well as add some textures.
So here they are

Enjoy! Comments and crits are welcome!

Looks good. Although the chair seems to be a little big for the room. Also the last picture is a little tight.. I think it would look best if it was a loose painting where you saw the brush strokes more. But thats just my preference.

Toodles!

Wow. did you actually paint the mat?! And shadow on the chair (the thing that supports your back on you sit on it) is wrong. It should be much darker. I say that according to the shadow the chair casted on the floor. And it seems like you have multiple light sources.
Good job though! keep going.

Looks good SaltyDog.

I agree with Trance on some of the shadows being darker. It will add alot more depth to the painting as you will have multiple shades of black.

I like the step by step images btw.
Keep it up.

There seems to be a second lightsource. Flail me If I'm wrong but the objects on the mantle piece have shadows going in the opposite direction of the chair. they are also very strong, especialy so if the lightsource is on the other side of the room. If the second light is that strong then it would create another shadow for the chair.
If there is only supposed to be the fire then you will neeed to go back to the drawing, and work out how the shaddows above the mantle will play out. I would imagine that there would be much less light above the fire and the spotlight effect on the ceiling would be effected by the shape of the fireplace.

Anyways I like where it's going, and I'm just speculating as to the shaddows.
