the graphics drivers im using right now only allow resolutions up to 1280x1024...is there any type of software that will allow me to achieve a higher resolution? |

psi burn:
The maximum resolution is based on the capabilities of your graphics card. A lower refresh rate can accomodate higher resolutions, but, usually that results in headaches. The RAMDAC (Digital to Analogue Converter chip which converts video memory to signals your monitor will understand) is the bottleneck. Not much to be done about that.

im generally happy with this resolution but everyone here speaks of painting in huge resolutions (like 2000) and if i were to make an image that big on my screen it would be very annoying to have to use the scrollbars constantly |

There are tools in photoshop and such which makes dragging an image along without using scrollbars easy and intuitive. You can sketch a 4000x3000 resolution image in 1/10th the size... the extra image res is there for you to play with the details in which you can zoom into the actual resolution later on if you so desire. |

Im working on a picture that is 2000x2000 and I find the Navigator way better than the scroll bars, its quick and easy.
I believe the people working on such high pixels(we are talking about the height and width of the image right?) is so they can add in a lot of detail like they were zooming in, so your res isnt really going to matter. If you get a higher res then youll just have to make the image larger so you can zoom in close and still be at 100%. |

Just an extra word on resolution: If you have a cheap (or small) monitor, that can sometimes limit your maximum resolution too. But 90% of the time, like Frost said, it's the video card.
And as for working on details, I'm sure you knew this, but just in case.... Ctrl+ and Ctrl- to zoom in and out, and space-leftclick to drag the view around. |
