For those of us who have been around for a while may have noticed a few trends. There was the "speed pics" period that went on for awhile. Then there was the black & white micke-style drawings phase. Now there is coloring.

I have mixed emotions about coloring. Everybody should know by now that I'm pursuing it for professional purposes, so I am coloring alot. However, I don't really think coloring contributes to the forum. During the other phases everybody was at least drawing from scratch. I kinda feel like people are hitching a ride on other people's linework just to post something. I think some of the newer folk should probably post more original art before jumping in and doing color variations on stuff.

I can probably be accused of the same thing, but since I have joined the forum... I've posted drawings, inkings, and paintings before I started my coloring phase. I feel bad for starting my own thread on FE's viking, because I'm afraid that may turn in to a new trend.

Anybody have anything to say about this?

I thought animation was the current trend.
Did not see that much coloring work lately.

you just work with the more mainstream techniques.

look at me, i'm the only one who uses the burn/dodge tool here. and god is it a ever hated method of drawing things. could be why others use it very rarely. and god do they get shit 'cause of it. every time someone says the name of the tool it takes about 2 seconds for someone to grow devil's horns on his head and point the usage of the tool out..

:P

It's true Chapel, some of us have done variations on FE's drawing. I agree with you it looks very cheap, but I haven't got a sacnner nor a tablet, so I can't post any drawings and my epileptic mouse is going to drive me crazy.
I decided to color the drawing for two reasons: 1) Practicing something I have never done before and 2) It fits with a character I am in a AD&D campaign.
Maybe I shouldn't have posted it? FE's thread wasn't on the first page and I thought it wasn't a good idea to post in there... I don't know.

There was a short period (or maybe I just looked at the right threads) where I saw people getting mad at people who would just post concept art and other line drawings. I have a thread in R.M. here that speaks of that. (Shameless plug)

Right now I don't have time at all to do much in the way of coloring. But I have allot of little characters and design sketches that I would like to get some outside opinion on, but do not want to get people upset.

The forum has grown. And I personally like the idea of a small split into categories. (not to big) I believe this because the forum has become a very well known place around the world to all types of artists, not just digital. Thats fine with me. I think that is why it is getting crowded and allot of the senior forum attendees are getting irritated. I duno... I like what you are saying though Chaple.

Ramble Ramble Rambl yada yada yada

Thanks

Blitz

Actually, I don't remember anybody getting upset on concept and lineart as long as it was complete. What was upsetting people were the ones that said "here is a concept I'm working on" and it is a 2 minutes sketch. The unfinished stuff is what upsets some people.

I just checked the Digi-Art forum and there is a post asking liquid! for tips on something he already colored. I think that might annoy liquid! just as much as it annoys me. (That was a free rant for ya.)

I haven't posted any linedrawings yet, but maybe someone may get upset, because I'm still learning (I'm a true begginer) so my drawings might look uncomplete, dull or whatever, because I couldn't go further or something... I think I'm beeing too hypotetical. I hope you get the idea.

Sounds kind of elitist to me. Who cares? As long as someone is making art, whether it be an original or enhancing(or ruining) someone elses work, more power to'em. IMO.

another trend I noticed as well is the woman bashing either here or in digital art.
