I've been using photoshop for about two years now, and thats great for airbrushing and manipulating things, but lately i have been wanting to get into 'real' painting.

I dont really have the room for paiting though, for a canvas or the oils, so I'm thinking a computer program would be the next best thing. I was wondering what program gives that effect, I notice it a lot in things like the quick color stuff micke does (only name that comes to mind atm), and all the versions of that hopeless looking old man that everyone tried to create a few weeks ago.

Anyway, back to the point, I'm wondering what the name of the program(s) is, and who makes it. If there are many of them out there, what does everyone consider to be the best, and how much of this stuff that i am seeing really is a pysical painting??

(Oh yeah, i think the one im looking for is the one with the feature to record the image you make in an .avi file, to show the process).

I think the program you are looking for is the Painter series by MetaCreations.

FearMe-

Yeah Painter seems to be what you're asking about, and that's what I use, but it seems like most people on this board actually use Photoshop to paint with, so whatever floats your boat.

Painter originally made by
Fractal Design, merged with MetaTools into
MetaCreations, then sold to
Corel.

There's Deep Paint by Right Hemisphere as well, which is supposed to be very good, but less widely known. Its a 2D and 3D paint program, and it comes as either a standalone or as a plugin for photoshop. Its jumped recently in price, though, which is a pity.

Still, definitely worth a look.
