First of all... WOW!
This kinda reminds me of Bisley's stuff when I used to collect 2000AD.
Perhaps a some clouds as though he's at the pinnacle of a vista or something.
Either way, great as is. |

Very cool picture so far.
It would be really great if the warrior was immersed in a column of volumetric light falling from above. I think the resulting effect would be awesome.
Perhaps he's in a cave or a dungeon? I think a cave would be nice.

Maybe some old jungle overgrown temple that this guy just killed the guardian of?
Of course there is always the good old "dead dragons and mountain background" too. |

something about the way he's bent over while holding the axe bothers me.. and i really cant place it. :/ its as if the axe is heavier than solid lead or something. and the right hand (from my pov) seems a little disfigured.
all in all, damn fine work veb, i look forward to seeing that tutorial. always kinda wondered how you worked.

Oh come on, tell us! It's really bugging me now, I can't stop trying to figure out what's wrong... Is it the black spot on his left wrist (our right)? Is it how his hair is flying away on its own? |

That's some cool shit man! I like this guy!! Nice colours too....his mouth and shadow are a little slanted and under his neck needs a darker shadow. There's also a few loose lines around, but I dunno if you did that purposely! Overall fucking cool though! |

Hey Veb.
Nice pic, kinda like the greyness to it.
Here are some things I'd like to comment on if I may. =)
I can't make out whether the lighting is in front or in back of the character -- the character and axe seem lit from a top-front light, but the diffused light painted on the background seems like a backlite (pointing towards us) because of it's very round and curved falloff, the helmet also has a sharp highlight on the top indicating a back/top light that doesn't show up on any other portion of the pic.
*His* right arm seems extended and straight (about at a 30 degree angle from his body) which should cast a shadow that is much longer and lower on his right leg I think. Perhaps if his right upper-arm were modified and shaded darker to indicate that it is more at a vertical position woudl fix this.
There seems to be missing some light, or just plain missing clavicles... as they should be lit and not occluded by the head/helmet shadow.
His pose seems to be a bit laid back, with his legs much forward and his upper body back. This could simply be a shading issue, which might be fixed by really darkening the value on the legs. The shadow under him seems to fall straight down from a direct overhead light, but the lighting does not reflect that.
Anyway, very nice pic, good anatomy in this one - like the pecs and abomen, very cool. I might be wrong with all this... Can't wait to see your tutor!
Cheers.

Hey..thanks for like..finding flaws in a half-finished image for me. Made my job easier;-) Some of them are valid, and some I didn`t even think of.
although my wife gave me the worst: she though he looked ashamed of something he`d done, and was awaiting some kind of punishment:-(
As for lines etc..well..it`s only 50& complete so I didn`t bother shaving his ass. Aswell as the eye problems..
Just halfway done guys. I`ve never posted halfdone work before...so I didn`t know what to expect.
The tut. wil be both photoshop and painter..I`ll go through all the techincal steps, and give some pointers on making digital art look less flat and more alive. Aswell as some pointers on posing. You`ve been getting all the other needed tuts from Fred Flickstone;-)

Veb, you could post a dot and the people at this board would be in awe of it... you're just that damn good,.
hell you could ask a Wacom question and have 50 replies actually helping you, rather than asking you to search...
you suck
