I found a cool stock photo and decided to paint it for practice. I used Photoshop and my 4x5 Pen Partner tablet for the face and coat. At that point, guess what came in the mail... My Intuos 6x8! Woohoo!!! So I finished it with my new toy by adding a hat and background. I'm calling it Mr. Meathead because that's what the stock photo was called.
This is the first time I feel I produced something decent.
Any comments?

i like it! the entire painting has a kind of plastic-y feel to it though. the face, hat and tie look so smooth that i thought they were rendered at first. it's a cool style though.
out of the whole thing, the only bit that i might suggest more work on is the lips. the top of the lips lacks that little dip in the middle, and the edges of a person's lips are never that defined unless they're wearing lip liner.
it's refreshing when people choose photos that AREN'T bikini girls. you should try a self-portrait!

I like that man, it pretty kewl! Like hennifer said though, it does have this mannequin type deal going! The skin tones are great and the coat looks really good! The only thing that's bothering me is the fibers technique on the hat, it looks unfinished to me! And is that right pupil (his left) bigger than the other? Then again it may just be me!

I got lazy at the end and didn't spend much time on the hat.
The eyes look a little funky. I think his left iris is slightly larger. Maybe it just looks that way because of the glare on his right. Dunno.
Thanks for the lip tip. Next time I'm going to concentrate more on details.
edit - here's the photo

Hehe... don't worry. My memory is probably worse. I think many years of (proper) hairspray usage has done something to my brain.

The picture is great. The coat is painted perfectly, the color is excellent. The only errors in the pic are a few touch ups needed in the face (the lips and such); and the hat needs to be placed better on the head. |
