Viro - PS for posters? hmm... weird.

I use :

PS5.5 for web graphics and small print design
AI8.0 for medium print design as well as graphic converting
QuarkXpress for prepress/dtp and general layout
Dreamweaver 3.0 for HTML authoring
and ofcourse Flash 4.0 for shockwave...

I'm a huge fan of Painter, though I've never been too comfortable with 6.0. I stick with 5.5. I really like the textures you can get with Painter, and its brushes feel much more natural to me than Photoshop's airbrush and "paintbrush".

Most of the stuff I do is doen through Corel Photopaint 8 (now 9) since it has really nice tablet management and everything else behaves like PS.

Same thing Spitfire said, except I just recently bought Adobe LiveMotion and I've slacked a bit on my Flash4.

Hey guys. This isn't really a discussion on which programs are good/bad, just wanted to know which ones you guys use out there and what you use each program for. I mainly use Photoshop 5.5 / Paint Shop Pro 6. I use PS for making posters/ads and professional work, and I use PSP for making web graphics and conceptual work.

Well I mostly use Photoshop 5.5. That is for pics and mostly for webb-design. I also use illustrator 9 for making designs to webbpages.
I also use painter classic that came with the wacom but I think it kinda sucks. Maybe painter 6 is better.

I use Photoshop 5 mainly for colouring scanned drawings but I also use it for creating text for my website. I use Corel Photopaint 7 occassionally for layout or image manipulation. I still have Corel Photopaint 4 on my drive but I rarely use it.

I like the feel of Painter 6's brushes, so I usually start my painting there and build up a solid foundation. When I'm satisfied I fine tune and add sharper details in Photoshop.

I wish Painter revised the interface a bit, so many variables going on.

Has anyone ever tried Gimp? It's freeware and supposedly similar to PS. I've got the WIN version istalled on my machine, but haven't had the time to play with it yet ...

I enter my color values by hand into Notepad and save as a raw file....

Now where did I put my medicine?

Oh dear.
Not again.

eh. . . gimp is not even close to photoshop. I am linux supporter but I think it is quite obselete with graphics. Rhino 3d is an excellent modeler, although it sucks for rendering and has no motion or pivot-point durability it is very simple to use and economically savy.

The gimp is really nice, IMHO...

If you'd smack on a photoshopish interface it would be a total killer, lacks some of the features in PS but has a whole bunch of others...
On overall I can only find the interface lacking, the rest rocks...
