Hi all, it's been a couple of weeks since I've posted here- I've been busy building a client's website (boring...) but managed to start a couple of paintings in my spare time.
Those composition posts are very insightful- explaining what my mind knew, but my eye didn't. Thanks greatly for them!
I sat down after reading through it and picked up a sketchpad- immediately I saw an image as if it were already drawn on the pad- I was stunned, it was as if a connection had been made between my dreams and what I saw! If only I were a better sketcher and artist, I would have served it justice:
I've started to paint it, but need some tips from everybody as to what kind of process you usually take to bring something together.... dark to light, light to dark, colour/value added straight away or later? etc.
Thanks for your help and crits guys & gals!
Also, this is a concept I started bringing together when I was uninspired =) I'm not sure whether it will ever get finished- Once I start something, I usually go at it until I've finished- it's a big flaw of mine, which I hope to dispell soon.
Thank you!

hi shannon!
The picture with the house is really very good! I like it a lot and it looks VERY good compositioned. I just would not try to go in with the airbrush yet. Try to use the paintbrush to get the details in, and then if necessary blend with the airbrush (or leave it away altogether)
This of course is only my opinion.
On your second colored image the flower is really great too but the hand is far behind the rest of the image. Try to look closely at your hand and try to draw what you see (not what you know). There are knuckles missing and the side with the thumb should look a bit different.
I really like that snow picture!

I couldn't see that first image Kain, broken link by me...
The reason why I didn't do a close up of the house was because it would loose it's compositional aspects (mountain ridges, road and tree line all leading to the house). When it's finished I can put a detail view of it if you'd like =)
By the way, my website has been updated to include 3D animation, film, graphic design and website designs- instead of just digital painting, drawing & photos.
Any tips on the painting process?
I think the name of this thread has put off a lot of people from bothering to read it....

Hi. I like the sketch. Although I think theres many ways you can go. Here take a look:
I think it would be cool id you did all that was within the black lines, I also thought it might be cool if you focused in on the house maybe. Anyway, thats just my opinion ;p!

This is like shouting in an empty room =)
Can ANYONE give me some suggestions on how to go about painting this image? (as mentioned above, dark to light, blocked in areas first, what?)
Thanks.... ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/rolleyes.gif) |
