Here's my latest work, I know there's some things wrong with it.
Just so you know, the background I kinda cheated on, using a clipart photo from AbuSimbel.
I will probably replace it later, I just got tired of working on it and lacked any imagination to finish it off in the backround.
The rest is entirely freehanded.
And, yes, I know he's got a BIG nose
So, here goes:

here's my humble opinion:
the hair is good. I like the detail and the highlites, however, if he's leaning that much, wouldn't it sort of hang more in front of his face then it is? also, it would be nice if the face was as sharp as the hair as hurricane said.
as for the neck, I think it might be completely off. here's a diagram to help ya out.
ya see how his posture is completely off? If you fix it, it'll fix that hair problem. also, I like the touch in how you made the shadow on the hair, it makes him look like he's wearing a wig. (and they did back then ya know. )
nice job. :P |

Why wouldn't anyone see it? It's closer, but he's still way off his pivot point. Try to picture his jaw line, and where it would connect.

Looks pretty good. One thing that i noticed is that it's abit hard to see what he is suppose to do(the reason his head is tilted that way)You could maybe move his head a lot more to the right(our right).
I alo think that the shading is too smooth.
Especially by the nose and lower lip the melt
together with the rest. Try to sharpen some areas. Hope this can help in any way.

Cool, cool. I don't get what he's doing, but it looks cool anyway. Are you going to expand the pic a little so we can see what's going on, or is this all of it? Just wondering.
Oh, and I think that gold collar-thingy would look AWESOME if you could make it a lot shinier. It would give the pic a much sharper and more majestic look, in my opinion.

OH man, that gif anim of the head bobby in and out...that's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.
One of the ways egyptians painted things, was called "Broad aspect", basicly, it would show the profile of the face, and the front of the body, an imposible anatomical pose.
what you've done here (Midnite) is to take that idea even further and give it some depth. You could play up the idea of what you have now by looking at some egyptian artwork and taking it a bit further. If you did go this rout, then your first image would be what you're looking for.
I think it would be interesting to see more image done this way.

There is something about this one I like, so I tried my own. All those Gerome paintings coming to life in Gladiator were just the best.
I had so many ideas about this pic when I started that it kinda got stuck in the middle of a lot of different worlds. The rendering on the face sucks pretty damn hard, but I don't have time to change direction. The flowers on the back table are ok. He looks like he is a very serious dude, which I was after. A bit more research on costume and authentic detail would help. I might come back to this one. If you want to work over it, please do. The severed head was nice.
I have been back for two days, and I am going back out on vacation tomorrow for two weeks, if anyone is counting. |

That lighting and modeling is just gorgeous! I feel so weak now Oh well, all in good fun for learning. Glad to see another take on an idea. This is a first for me! Very very enlightening.

Hello, I know it may not be the place for this but I am looking for some help regarding sharpening my sketches. I use a Wacom Intuos 18x12 but even with it I can't get the sharp look of your egyptian citizen...my drawings look blurry and the dhabih tutorial won't help anyway. How and with which tool do you make it? I use PS5. I have been trying to solve it on my own for almost 2 years but I give up...
I would appreciate ANY (and a lot) of help regarding this.
Thanx a lot.

what resolution are you working in..I would try 1000x1000 pixels....or even higher than that..if that doesn't help try using smaller pixeled brushes...you may have to create your own the stock photoshop brushes are pretty limited
I hope this helps |

Welcome back Spooge, have a good holiday!
Love the decapitation MidNite =)
I think a more definate light source would aid this painting greatly.
btw, my website is updated to include 3D animation etc also now. (anyone who cares? =)
Good work MidNite!

I usually sketch at 200/250, depends, even 300. Dhabih's work is usually set around 200 something. Maybe if I send something I have done (and it will look blurry) someone might give me a hint...what I want to know is what kind of tools are used to sharpen outer and inner edges (for example, to define the Egyptian's nose and such).
Thank you in advance.
