Here's a novel thought: If you create, you should be creating because you have to. I don't mean because you need money-I mean because you'd go nuts if you didn't create. Most of the people here would draw and paint and sculpt and do 3dcg even if they didn't get paid(or if they don't). Create because you want to, and then you don't have to worry about how good some other guy might be, because your creation is what it is. It's like with women. One might be prettier than another, but God isn't kicking himself for making a mistake.

Thats a pretty explination Anthony.
I agree with you totally.
I mean, no one would actually pay me for my work its just that i enjoy doing it and it's a form of escape from the crazy, troublesom things that are going on in the world.
As long as you have fun doing it.. thats all that counts.
PS: http://www.freebox.com/seanf/we.gif < This is an image I* created last night. I was really mad and I guess all my emotions just kinda came out on this one. Of course there are things that could make it better. But I like it just the way it is. And thats all that counts. * The backround photo is given complete props to Natasha Epperson. Thanks for letting me use it.

When I see someone's work who's better than me, I don't feel discouraged. I feel inspired.
It's about skill, but it's also a mental excercise. When I see someone better than me, I know what is possible in my own work and I strive to make my own work better. When I was at Disney, everyone there was better than me. Talk about intimidating. But me work substantially improved being surrounded by the most talented people in the world. Part of it was needing to prove myself, and part of it was just wanting to be better and being inspired by such talent.

Amen mozeman. I work with Fred. And Wacomonkey. And about 20-30 of the most talented artists I've ever seen.
g, it just helps me to push myself that much harder, to make sure I'm "pulling my weight." So be inspired, not discouraged, as mozeman said.

Mozeman is right. Imagine a building full of Craig Mullinses. You can either a) go shoot yourself b)ignore them and stay the same c) get better
When you see people more skilled than you, don't get mad, get better. It only takes time. The mistake people make, IMO, is to bury their heads in the sand. REALIZE your own limitations. Then try to work through them. And have the expectation that getting better takes practice and time.
When I see paintings by Spooge or Fred (or any other badass), my reaction is not to copy them; it's to run off and train harder. Be accutely aware at how great artists got to where they are. Then do it.

I hear you Moro. I agree.
How sad it is that anyone can look at another human being and think that their face or form is "a mistake".
