Well, barring the super high end thingys, either Painter or Photoshop. Most people seem to use Photoshop, and get awesome results. I can't get used to it myself, Painter's charcoal and water colors I like best.

I use PS. I like the idea of Painter, but there's too much stuff in the interface to sort out for me. PS is simple, which is good.

The best digital illustrator I know of, Craig Mullins, uses PS. Of course, it was recommended to him by the freakin' creator. But he turns out some out-a-site stuff with it. If it's good enough for him...

So, I think one can get more mileage out of PS than Painter.

Tsk Tsk, Spooge could blow our minds with MSPaint if he wanted. Remember, it's the artist more than the tool.

Granted. You're splicing my sentences to create an thought I didn' have. (that's cool. don't mean to bite your head off).

Yeah, it's obviously just a tool. What I meant was that Craig gets allot out of PS, though it lacks many of Painters features.

I just finished a fairly complex "painting" for an animated series using Macromedia Flash. There are no brushes involved, but it's pretty much exactly like how I'd paint it in PS. Consequently, it looks like a background painting and not vector art.

Oh NO! I really wish I could. I'm under contract and can't show it here. You all know how that goes, I'm sure. I apologize for letting it out.

I will see if I can get permission to post JPG's. In any event, I should be able to post all the images for this show eventually.

Again, sorry. I feel like a bastard now.

OK. I got permission to post this, so here goes. I'm not really looking for crits, thought they are welcome. Basically, these are to show that the software doesn't really matter. This image was colored entirely in Macromedia Flash. No transparency. No blends. The image may be flawed, but that is only because of the artist (me, in this case). I also included a rough block.

have you tried using adobe's Live Motion? it's awesome! It may speed some things up for ya, it's both vector and bitmap.

I have total respect for the person brave enough to color in stuff with flash. This proves my theory, you guys are truly insane

Thanks, Samdragon. This particular show required that I color backgrounds in Flash, but normally I wouldn't do it. But it's been very educational anyway.
