Hello all!
I have a huge problem, and I hope someone out there can atleast try to help me!

The thing is I can draw pretty well (in my opinion) with paper and pen, and I can shade my drawings good and I get the look I want!
But when I scan my drawings and color them in Photoshop, I have no idea how to do the shading! I try the dodge/burn tools but I can't get a good look, it looks really weird and bad! The shadows are correct, but it doesn't look like an arm or metal or whatever i'm trying to shade! So I guess my problem is I don't know how to make different materials or something?

My english is really bad but I hope you understand what my problem is and that you can try to help me in some way!
Thanks in advance!

Try airbrushing. I've had the same problem, and couldn't just come to grips with the dodge/burn tools.

I went airbrush....and you may want to try out a proggie that lends itself more to natural-media style of use. Painter.

Mr. VampirE

If I was you I would try to not think of this as painting on the computer and try to think of it more as painting in general. There are no tricks to doing shadows except looking at real shadows and trying to match those colors as close as possible.

You might try using a layer of the compliment color on a different layer just as you might with real watercolors. Just make the opacity on that layer lower. This is a trick but it might not look as good as just painting like real paints.
