I use the Wacom Intuos tablets at home and at work, and I've never had any problems with them. Don't know if this helps at all, but they seem to be pretty reliable. I had a Wacom ArtZ II (the prehistoric version of the Intuos from a few years back) and it was nothing but problematic. The drivers were always crashing! But the Intuos appears to have improved software. |

I don't know if you know this, but you also need a painting program along with the tablet. The tablet basically is just a substitute for the mouse that makes drawing easier. It doesn't give you any programs, though. Most people use either Adobe Photoshop or Metacreations Painter. Those two programs are quite expensive, though. There's also Paint Shop Pro, which is considerably cheaper but has drastically fewer options and capabilities. Whichever way you go, I just want to make sure you realize that you need more than just a tablet. You'll need to purchase a paint program as well. |

I have both graphire and intuo and they're almost the same. I like my Graphire simply because it's USB based. |

Grr, how do you get it for $5? Not fair. Oh, as far as the wacom line goes, I think the Graphire is the lower end, the ArtZII is in the middle, and the Intuos is the best.
I have a 6x8 ArtzII and it works just fine. Just is hard to adapt to though.

Ha,ha, Snakegrunger, you'll have to catch me first.
I just want to say this:
Graphire comes bundled with Painter Classic + other stuff, which is a great way to start for anyone who is still scraping together the dollars for P'Shop etc. Sure, Classic doesn't have certain advanced features, but you can still do heaps and heaps with it. So the Graphire is good value for anyone with plenty of raw enthusiasm, but zilch programs.

I've used both graphire and intuous. The only real difference noticable, for the regular artist, is the size. The graphire obviously is smaller, BUT - it has served me great so far. I love the fact that I don't have to use large arm movements to paint with it.
Also, when you do a lot of your work in 200% zoom or more, it's easy to appreciate the faster handling. (although, granted, you can configure an intous to use only a portion of its surface).
My advice is getting the graphire. It will be a major improvement on mouse usage any day. Then once you wear it down, and you've gotten to be a real tablet maniac, you know exactly what you want and what to look for, in your new tablet, if you even want a different kind...
Btw, the 512 vs. 1024 pressure sensitivity levels, you don't feel the difference. I didn't anyway.
Tgraphire is also a lot less $ than intuos. The bundles programs are nice too (beating the sh!t out of paint shop pro anyday). Photoshop or Painter are good to aim for though. |

I'd say definitely go for the Graphire. It's cheaper, much cheaper, and only slightly less pressure-sensitive than the Intuos. It's small, but still quite nice. Maybe you miht want to make the jump to a 6x8 Intuos someday, but I'd say for now, especially since it's your first tablet, go for a Graphire. Just my opinion, though. |

I don't know the Intuos but i can say about the Graphire -the tablet i use cuz i don't have any money to buy a best one:
Wacom Graphire sucks.
I really can't draw with this tablet.
Drawing on paper is totally different.
Ye, probably the Intuos doesn't let u feel like drawing on paper - but i really don't feel my hand, my mind, my power - using the Graphire.
My comment is relatively useful cuz i don't know anything about tablets - but i know a little - little bit about what drawing means. |

Get the graphire.
If you can't draw with a graphire you can't draw with an intuos either.
believe me buddy, get the graphire.

NUR: All tablets take some getting used to. You're not going to find one that is really very similar to drawing on paper. It's just not possible to have that kind of quick response and control. But as far as tablets go, the Graphire is almost as good as an Intuos, except for the size of course.
Oh, and USB and Serial are two different types of ports on your computer. If you have an open USB port, go for the USB. USB is much faster and more responsive. Serial is good too, just not as good. Doesn't really make too much of a difference which one you get, it just depends on whether you have the necessary ports open. |

I was at London Drugs today and I tried the Wacom Graphire tablet. At first looks it looked pretty cool, but when It came down to actually drawing, it became stuborn. I have difficulty to draw, it didn't make sense.. It might of been the computer I was on, because 5 mins later the computer started to beep.. naturally I just walked away.. :P
Later Dude |

If you can't draw with a tablet, good luck with digital painting.... you'll need it.

Those are inches. And they are listed as that because many people who would buy one see "A4? Huh? How big is that?" and they are discouraged. But since it's in inches, Wacom can draw in newbies who haven't even tried serious drawing before. |

What is the 'prehistoric' thing with the ArtZII. I own a ARTZII board (12"x12") and dabih draws with it too..
What possibly could an Intuos do more than a ArtzII..
Is it the 256-1024 pressure levels that mean All the difference ?
