I hope people actually come and see this, I pretty proud of this one. I think I got the helmet down pretty good. I got the head pose from a shot in the starwars.com characters page.

I'm not to sure about the cape though. I've never really done fabrics before so I don't really know how to handle them - perhaps Fred Flick can write a tutorial (cough, cough, hint, hint )

Tell me what you think - I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, how do the folds look? I think I will take the white highlights out of the fabric in the morning. (it's 11:30pm for me). I can't believe I'm still awake.

crisk-the folds are abit 2dimensional. They need a bit more depth value wise, i.e. in the rolls of the folds there will be reflective light, with the closest point to us of the rolls acting as a defining core shadow. Pinch points. When the folds get closer to their point of origin, they pinch down hard, so the shadow gets thinner, the core gets thinner and shallower, and the fold lays closer to the surface. This will really help you in the shoulder areas where you have the radiating folds eminating from. The left shoulder,on the right of the screen is too bright. if it is in the shadow side, it too will be toned down in value...it stands out too much value wise...
Also, the sleeves if the of the Imperial Royal Guard are separated by a cut in the fabric, they are not rolled sleeves. I am, sorry, a huge Star Wars freak and know every design inside and out. I think I have drawn every joe johnston, and ralph mcquarrie design 10 times each...and those sleeves are split via a cut. They slightly roll in at the base, but up top, no rolling. And where is his force pike? No royal guard leaves home without it ...one other thingy, lift your shadow up a bit on the floor. If there was that much space between cape and floor, you'd see a hint of his feet. And the white highlights gotta go. The cape is a cotton/wool fabric, non reflective. And too many white highlights on the helmet end upmaking it look spotty. pick one area, highlight it, and then back off on the size and intensity on all the others.
All in all, I'm not harshing, just giving some advice to make this IRG look really sweet. These are one of my favorite characters in the movie, never used, barely seen, that's alright, cause they are never forgotten...

The new one, the shoulders look too depressed, sunk in. Pop them back out like you had em in the first one. And don't overdo the dark ribbing on the light side. These capes were flat, not ripply, if your adding your own texture that's cool, but watch out how much detail you add to them. Too much is overkill. And fix those shoulders

I like the first version cape minus the highlights better. It's a much stronger look, and what happened to the arm slits...

I didn't add the force pike because I couldn't find a good detailed pic of it - yet anyways. I was looking at the 2 pics from starwars.com, I don't have the original star wars movies

I'll try and add more to it today. Thanks for all the advice.

looks nice chrisk82...

like the reflections on that helmet a lot.
Body, try to make the draperies more "dramatic". and also try to make the shading so that it would be possible to see what kind of texture the cape has, I know that is very hard though.
the body is way to short. Try to sketh up a body on top of it that fits to the head, and you will see what I mean. Even so, personally I would made the body longer than the natural length as well, since it's all covered with a cape.

keep up the nice work !

looks good, but try to remember, an average sized man is relatively about 6 heads high in height, and i know the helmet on that dude adds alot to his head but his body only seems to be 3 heads high....just a little comment on proportion. it looks pretty normal though..

also, try to de-wrinkle the cloth in the 2nd image, it looks like it has too many depressions, sort of like foil.

otherwise its pretty nice

psi burn-the average man is about 6 feet tall, but the average head height is 7 1/2 heads. The ideal male is 8 1/2 heads high. A head unit isn't 1' either. It is smaller...

My only comment would be that he might be a hair too tall. I am on a pretty tiny monitor at home, I had to go full screen on my view. This image is posted smaller than the other two, and the other two still fit comfortably on my screen, while the smaller guy still doesn't fit completely on screen.
Beyond that, I think you did a marvelous job absorbing all the suggestions and fixing the image. I really like the foot wanting to protrude from the cape. Nice job with that Bravo, just shrink hi a bit if you think youshould, it's your call, no one elses, butI think that's really the only major problem...

That looks a lot better . The other fellas have given you sound advice...I just wanted to add that the Imperial Guard action figure was the best! They actually had real cloth for the cloak!

Sorry about the size - I made him taller and had to make the canvas longer. Here's a 250x500 I think.

This 2-day project has inspired me to redesign my webpage - oh wait, I haven't put it up yet

Thanks a lot guys. I'm gonna let it sit awhile before I change it again. I find that to sometimes help so you can clear your mind.

Just wanted to say I put a small webpage up for my work. It really sucks but I will be putting up more work real soon.
www.geocities.com/clk8211

some of the font colors on the buttons are screwed up - frontpage is a bitch to work with.

Very good chrisk82! Great distinction between the plastic helmet and the fabric in the last image. Nice to see how you changed the image based on the feeback you got This forum really works I also like the soft shadows on the floor. Very good, keep it up

You guys are probably sick of all the different version But I modified my pic once again because I thought he was still to short. I cheated and just resized the whole image - but hey, with computers artists have the freedom to do that kind of thing
