I needed a change in pace, so i did what i have always wanted to do...make a skin for Unreal Tournament. This is my first skin for any game, so if you are a veteran skinner take it easy on me.
It is finished, but my only problem is that there isn't an editor made for Mac...I have to get a PC emmulator...
Anyway...Mr. Caudle, if you are still out there lurking and you have any comments, please jump in (i know this is your field..I used your model template to do this ).
here it is:

I know its big, and there isnt going to be that much to comment on compositionally, but if you have any comments about textures, or just how the character looks, comment away! yeah |

Stop it! You're keeping me awake! It's 4:30 and I have to get up soon! ahhhhhh!!
Anywho, nice textures, Moose. Too bad I can't see what they look like mapped onto the model...
Only comment I would have overall is to watch the edges of the objects. Any white from the bg, or even just a slightly different color, will yield a visible seam along the edges where the polygons mesh together.
As far as the way the textures look, I like 'em! I really like the face! Those eyes and black face mask are pretty scary man!
On the left side, 3rd from the top, there is a set of objects (don't know what they're for), but the surface texture looks a bit different than the other metal-like stuff. Don't know what look you were going for, though...
Just above the face texture, there's an odd shaped polygon map. What are those little wormy things? It looks like there's some black outline still left on them. I might play with the contrast a little (depending on what they - and where they go).
It would really be neat to see this all together - somebody help this man!
Okay, very nice work overall, Moose. I'm goin' ta bed now... 'night!

I really don't see why people post the textures and not what they actually look like on the model...

I'm assuming Moose doesn't have an editor to output an image of the full model ...and just wanted some feedback on the textures. ...and what do you think of the textures, Affected?

Oops, didn't notice the bit about there not being an editor for mac... Sorry!
Still, I prefer not to judge skins without seeing them on the model. what matters is what it looks like when used...
Anyway, it's quite dark, but then you're using a mac. The airbrushing is blurry in places, but it may not be noticeable in-game. One thing I'd definitely look into are the folds on the pants, they don't seem very realistic to me... But then I don't really know how it's wrapped around the model, so again... |

affected: I know what you are sayin about it being hard to judge since the textures arent on a model. I am going to post a screen shot of the model as soon as i get a texture file, which should be soon... I am having some friends make me the texture file. once that is done...the model will be up too.
kurisu: the wormy things i think you are refering to are the hands....when the wire is over them there is a definite shape...they do look a little squemish. The oddly shaped poly is the bottom of the boot.
im gonna get the finished version of this character up. if you are interested in doing something like this, this is where i went to learn: http://home.hiwaay.net/~scaudle/Skins/UTSkins.htm
you can also see the actual 3d character there too. |
