Hey there...just finished the line drawing of a picture that I plan to color. It isn't a dragon, and it isn't an insect, or maybe it is both, but I am hard pressed coming up with a fitting name for this thing

Your mission, if you choose to accept, is to name this critter! Oh yeah, and tell me what needs improvement

Two pictures are posted, one with the entire image, and the other is zoomed in on the most interesting part.

Thanks!

No, no, no... All your names suck.

It should be called the "Bad-ass Muthafucka From Hell".

for some reason, I like "snairg" or something weird. or, "geimworm" or something strange that you can just type without thinking.

I very much like the cartoony style inklines. I have difficulty to decide wether I'll have to use thick or thin lines.

I've read somewhere , thicker lines on the outside of the drawing and thinner inside.

Would you be so kind to post your thoughts about linedrawings and when you decide to draw thick lines and when to draw thin lines.

That would be appreciated.

Wow, I am really surprised by all of the responses! Thanks everyone (even those who were just being funny )!

I see a lot of good names out there, and that helps me more then you might think. I'm in the process of coloring it right now, but it hasn't gone as smoothly as the line drawing. Still, I'll try to post the colorized version soon

Chalker: I'm far from being a professional inker, but maybe I can help you out. There is no secret to this style of line drawing. It uses light as the main source in determining line thickness.

Here was my original scan (or close to it...I don't have the unaltered scan anymore)

I then adjusted the brightness/contrast in Photoshop so that I could ink over it (using the freeform pen tool) and easily be able to tell the difference between the sketch and the pen fill.

I used the 'fill subpath' command with the freehand pen tool. This gives it a nice smooth look that is very hard to duplicate just by using the paintbrush. It can be done that way but I've had more success by using the freeform pen tool. Keep in mind though that this image is pretty large (4000 x 5000) so my little mistakes mostly disappear.

Like I said earlier, using light as the source for line thickness is what I do. It isn't entirely correct because if I were not planning on painting this I would have filled in more areas, but I'll let the paint do the work for the next step. Some of the lines seem totally contradictory to what I told you, but that is because I wasn't looking for perfection in this step, just something nice and clean to work with that gave me some indications on where to go while painting.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I hope it does!

Keep the names coming!
