Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I have been lurking in this forum for a bit now and it has inspired me to try to reach farther into the "2D" realm. One way I am going to start doing this is to begin reviewing 2D software. I know that there are alot of good 2D artists here in this forum so I thought I should post here first in my search for software reviewers. We have already started this venture in the 3D realm and the response from software companies has been tremendous so I hope we can light the same fire on the other side of the digital art fence. Here are the details:
I am looking for two artists to review various 2D software programs, plug-ins, texture collections, etc.
These two individuals will have to have good writing skills and be mature enough to offer an in depth, intelligent, and un-biased review of the software they are assigned.
You must have enough free time in addition to your normal activities to cover a piece of software in an adequate amount of time. The current turnaround time expected of you is two months for a major package and one month for a book, plug-in, filter, etc.
You will get a fully functional copy of the software to review. This includes packaging, software media, and manuals. YOU GET TO KEEP THE SOFTWARE WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED! No turning it back in unless it is a special case (ie one of my reviewers needed an Intuos tablet to finish the review of a particular piece of software so I got him one on loan from Wacom that he has to turn in when the review is finished.)
I will do my best to get you software that you are interested in but sometimes it just can't be that way. I will ask you for a list of things you would like to review and if I can't get a hold of them I will present you with other options and you can either take them or leave them to someone else.
These reviews we are doing are to give artists an ARTISTS view of a product. We are going further than just re-hashing the promo material by digging in to the nuts and bolts of a product and finding out the answers to questions potential consumers may have. This does take time so please do not apply if you feel you wont be able to dedicate yourself to the task.
This is a good chance for you to get your hands on some software that you might not normally be able to afford or possibly software you hadn't yet heard of. Like I said, the response in the 3D arena has been overwhelming and here is a list of the software/hardware we are currently reviewing:
Cinema 4D XL
WorldBuilder
TrueSpace
Deep Paint 3D
9x12 Intuos Tablet
Electric Image
Amapi 3D
Solid Thinking
All of my artists so far have been pleased with this program and I am sure you will be happy with the arrangement. If you are interested please post a reply here and show a sample of your work plus a URL to your website if applicable.
Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from some of you soon,
Eric Rainey - Owner

I own most of those software titles you listed
I don't have a tablet, though, I could use one.
I would like to get some more free software and tell you about it. |

I'd definitely be interested in reviewing tablets and whatnot. I'm a game reviewer for MPOG.com, so if you want to see some of my work, check out the reviews by Tinusch. My website isn't too impressive, but the URL is http://tinusch.dhs.org. It's mainly just a temporary layout until I can redesign something good. Well, let me know if there are any positions still available. Thanks. |

Oops, I guess MPOG.com doesn't show the reviewer's name next to their reviews. Here are some links to a few of my better reviews:
Deer Hunter 2: An objective, factual review. Pretty straightforward.
Half-Life Adrenaline Pack: My most recent review.
Boss Rally: My personal favorite. A brutal review of a very bad game.
Those are probably the best summary of what I've done. |
