amazingly realistic, just done in a morning? damnnnnn! eyes and hair is awesome

as for humble comments, if you're looking for any.. is she wearing a white tank top? or just a bad tan line? and if you're going for ultra-realistic, and depending on whether her head is tilted back or just a rotated canvas.. then i guess the hair on the right of the pic is either defying gravity or soaked in hair spray.

Awesome! Look fantastic, how long did you actually spend on it?

I agree! It would be cool if you could visit the forum more often..

Ever finish that Amidala picture? I'd love to see the finished version.

Eddy H, it actally took about 3 hours.

FireWalker, she does have a white tanktop on or a dress or something. As for the hair,I was kinda thinking the same thing, I'm not sure if the picture is turned or if she has some kind of hair spary in it. Actuall in the photo she has more hair sticking out on the side than I painted in. I think the photo I was looking at is from the latest Maxim magazine if you want to check it out.

Well, what can I say... Epic did a very good move when they hired Shane. This guy is just amazing.
Who needs photographers anymore these paintings are better than any photos.
Shane should do tutorial or painter script cos we need to know how he does it.

O my god, how can you possibly create a picture like that. There's absolutely no flaws in this picture. Although I have a question, did you have a photo reference for this?

Very Impressive to say the least. But I for one would like to see people these sorts of pieces from something other than photos snatched from various magazines or the internet. Do like Fallen did (I believe it was he) Take your own reference shots...actually compose them! Once you get that down you can then apply the amazing painting talent you have here! Just a thought.

p.s. I like your Milli Vanilli photo on your website Shawn!! (LOL)

Very good stuff Shane.. I was curious to know why you didn't post the reference photo at its original resolution? Also.. could we maybe see the original painting? Or was it painted at this resolution? I'm just curious about other artist's technique.. and if they work in hi-rez, it is sometimes helpful to see their brushstrokes in closer detail, if you're working on your own technique. Thanks..

That picture is so real. Amazing work! I can't believe you did that all in Painter 6, I have to get that program. I especially like her hair. It's so smooth and silky and light and bouncy and uhhhhhhhh. . . . . .angelina joliieeeeeeee. . . .

Dude, if you weren't Shane Caudle, you would have gotten your ass bounced out of the forum... It's called Threnodizing.
I know that a bunch of ppl here will be against me, cuz you are who you are, but someone else would not have gotten away with it.
Same with your painting of Queen Amidala. I saw a life-size cartboard pic of her, and it's exactly the same to the last pixel.
And your b&w paintings... Does 'Boris' sound familiar?
You have awesome skills; You lack originality.

Checked it - no threnodization detected. He definetely painted it, because there are some proportion differences in her face - how the parts relate to each other.

But, I have to agree with Physh here a little bit - en exact copy is pretty amazing and helps you learn. But, god, you even took to color from the original ...

Guess I'm opening up a can of worms here - the images shown here recently remind me of when the gfx-demoscene got hit by the 'I copy boris' wave ... thank god they ran out of images to copy ...

Nothing against using photographic reference, but don't you weaken your own power of creation with it? Why not make something new out of it? Create a new content, based on the photographic element you used ...

But those are just my $0.02

[I really should get something to eat now ... I'm way too cranky ]

Guys calm down, I do original stuff all the time, but I cant post it here because it is confidential stuff for Epic. I did this pic because I wanted to do a portrait, I haven't done one in a while. I don't have models, so I grabbed a pic off the web for a reference because I thought it was a great pic of her. geeez!

As for the painting studies I did of Frazetta and Boris's work, I like to learn from the masters by doing there style. I'm not trying to take credit for their work. It clearly states that they are reproductions on my site.

Sorry for posting it. I didn't realize it would cause all this turmoil.

Unfortunately, Shane, there are quite a few "Holier than thou" people in here that tend to go after anyone who does a realistic portrait. Yet everyone loves the trash talkin', stick figure drawing guys. Oh well...don't let it get to you...

man you guys are a bunch of bitchs, serious. Take a piece of ART for what it is, ART. quit the bitching and 'threnodizing' bullshit. This is an amazing painting and he obviously has alot of skill. If your for some reason jelous of his abilities, then take it out on yourself and get better. btw people paint photos or other works of art/styles to learn and to have fun, not to get bitched at. sheesh.

in an unrelated note, shane tell those programmers to make the next unreal use opengl, whatre they smokin?

Preach on brothers!
It's funny how much trouble people go through to prove that someone traced-copied or whatever.
It's obvious when people trace stuff and try to feed us a bunch of bull about it being original.
I've seen people's portfolios and websites that have tones of stuff they traced that look awesome, but when they post drawings from life..well it's all crap. So 1+1=lame.
I think it's great for someone in Shane's postion to do stuff outside of work. I know I would want to do stuff that would break the norm.
So, great work Shane. I hope you post some more stuff. I think I'll post a Rick Berry rip off I'm working on when i get time to finish it.
