Chris - Yup, right with you all the way there. You're coming from a biological point of view, as I stated. Fair enough, all you say makes sense UNTIL you say that "a source of heat" is needed.
Having a SOURCE of heat is environmental. As I said, the body regulates its own internal temperature, so if you want to assume that environment isn't an issue (fair enough, from the biological point of view) then "a source of heat" becomes a WANT.
Make sense?
So, in answer to your original question (now I've identified where you're coming from)
You NEED breathable air, water and food.
(ooh, and a nice collection of books on biology would be nice  )

Is your body not a "Source of heat" you couldn't live w/o it. I didn't narrow it down to "source of heat from environment" I just said heat. Which you body can produce, and if you body produces it, then you must need it.  "source" the source can be anything. |

JESUS CHRISTOS did you ever have 5th grade science classes?!? If you did then you would have learned the four baisc needs in order to LIVE is Heat Shelter Water (hell we are made up of close to 80% water) and food.
ok and it goes in this order of most important
WATER
Heat
Shelter
Food you can live long time without food just ask faustgfx :P |

you gotta show me the wood-fire first that produces enough heat for a long enough time to dry enough wood to keep that fire burning at the same temperature.. try it, its not possible. |
