Just discovered this message board and thought I'd share a piece I worked on with some people here at Eggington Productions.

He's all 3D, with the exception of the drool in his mouth and some fuzz where he's rimlit (those were added in Photopaint).

Glen Crowell did the design, Joe Cosman was the modeler, and I did textures and lights. It was modeled and rendered in Hash's Animation:Master 2000.

I can't say what he's for just yet, but comments would definitely be appreciated.

Cool forum!

Wow, very nice...and yes - I also think it would fit well in Warcraft. At first I thought it was a real model...I don't know why but it seems like this guy is only about three inches tall.

Still..awesome job and I hope to see more!

Have you seen the animations for Warcraft III by any chance?

I really like it, it's very good. I wonder how long it will take before we start fighting monsters with this high quality in 3D First Person Shooters?

Thanks for all the feedback guys! And yeah, he will be animated at some point (I've made a detailed landscape for him to move around in).

I haven't got any more to show from that particular project, but you can see some of my personal work at http://www.enol.com/~bprince/digital.html .

Yeah, I've been using A:M for about four years now. I'll occassionally play with another app, but so far I haven't had a reason to do my major pieces in anything other than Hash.

That's rendered in AM? *JAW DROPS*

I bought AM, but haven't really used it much at all...I'm super impressed by this--I didn't think their renderer was capable of producing such a pretty picture...I'm well aware of the badassness of their toolset, but man...sweet.

Balistic, it's pretty nice...

I think the lighting needs a bit more work, though. I find the shadows far too dark. Take for example the shadow on the beast's trapezius cast by the ear. There is very little distance between the ear and the trap, yet the shadow has really soft edges. This suggests that that you have a fairly diffuse light casting that shadow. In which case there would be some light spilling into the shadow. Your shadow is nearly black, however.

I also feel that you could use a bit more of a fill light from the lower left to help define the form.

Thanks Jamie . . . the lighting was thrown together in about 15 minutes and consists of three area lights . . . a key from the upper left, a weak kicker from below, and a fairly powerful rim from behind. If I was going for a more outdoorsy look, I definitely would've used a lot more cool fill. I've seen your work before, neat stuff.

Zeph: no, we haven't done anything more than a few test anims with him yet . . . initially, he was for an in-house short to be entered into SIGGRAPH, but with the arrival of some very lucrative paying gigs, he's taken the back burner for now.

...Wow! Excellent work. The hoof is a cool touch. The one bare foot, the chunk taken out of his lip, the scars on his cheek, I like it. The way the axe head is mounted is interesting too.
