Francis..great work as usual. I definitely see your architectural background seeping through. I also agree with Alias on the "pool of light" theory. So often we get wrapped up in all the detail that it becomes overwhelming. By darknening up some spots and taking away detail it draws the viewer to where you want them to look the most.
BTW..aside from Ghost in the Shell, this reminded me of Total Recall...the glassed in Red Light District on Mars...except your color palette is green instead of red. But killer nonetheless.

LOL

It's very nice and detailed. One question though, is she a spy or something. If so she seems too relaxed and out in the open. What is she looking at with those binoculars? Everything seems so close that she wouldn't really need them.

I just -love- stuff like that!

I think AliasMoze is onto something really nice with his lighting treatment too.

Wow...If you said that it took more then 15 hours I wouldn't be surprised! Great detail, and almost all of the people look very natural. The focal point (aside from the very close woman) are the two monk-like figures (that is what my eyes are drawn to anyway). I'm not sure if that is intentional or not but I thought I would mention it.

Is this a picture of a space station? The cresent shape object on the right side of the image looks like a planet, but it is difficult for me to tell because it doesn't seem important to the rest of the picture(yet?).

This is my favorite type of depiction of the future - where everything isn't spit and shine like in Star Trek. Keep up the great work!

This is awesome, but the more awesome part is that it took you only 15 min. Damn, in 15 min, i can barely make a box!

I can't wait to see more stuff from you.

this is by any means great!! I really feel like being in there and watching over her shoulder.

I like this kind of coloring too.. I think it does not need full (colorful) coloring.

How did you come up with this scene?

Was it done on paper first or right in ps?

Awesome work!! Colors and the sitting girl somehow remind me of Korn's Follow the leader cd cover, yet this one is not so "cartoon-like". The girl itself looks like a hell to draw to me because of twisted sitting body and weird angle of view, not to mention the rest of the pic. I'd love to see more of these, very inspiring...

wow!! very atmospheric.. I REALLY like this one
somehow I thought of metal gear solid, ww2 spymovies and alien (the zone 28 sign probably )

what inspired you to do it? Love the style maybe you could increase the blue tone of the light that aliasmoze darkened and increase the yellow on the rest, but still keep it very de-saturated as it is now.. I dunno, I love it allready

Yes, I was being sarcastic about the time taken to do this. So far it's been maybe 4-5 hours, and I think I'm about halfway through.

In response to the comments -

CapN, Nex - It's a pencil drawing (about 11"x14") that I scanned. I can post the original if anyone's interested.

- Aliasmoze, I do like the crispness of the cast shadows in your version, and in fact Spooge recommended the same thing to me on another drawing, so I will incorporate that idea. I will probably leave the outlines in the final drawing. This is very typical of the stuff I do at Presto - line work with "markeresque" color treatment.

- Incarnatation, it's not inspired by Ghost in the Shell, it's a blatant ripoff!

- Iska, interesting idea. I will play around with that too.

- Spiritwolf, the idea is that it is a very old space station, and yes you are seeing a planet outside the large window.

- frag, I was inspired because I have done very little character and sci fi stuff recently, so I wanted to do some of that for a change.

I will post the final when it's done, or maybe a link to the image if it's too big. I giffed it trying to save some space, so the colors might have gotten tweaked a little.

This is something I'm working on in my spare time (i.e. half an hour every third day). You might notice that the perspective in this drawing is not too exact - in fact, I very rarely construct perspectives these days.

This took more than fifteen minutes, and was not created when I was three.

Tell me what your impressions are; maybe I can incorporate some comments as I continue on this thing.

Thanks!

Hey that looks damned cool. I uh, dont have any suggestions or critques unfortunately cause this is out of my league. Great job though, i really like the marker look, howd you go about drawing the underlying structure, pencil then scanned it in? The lighting is really cool too. Hmm, anyway, if its not finished now, id like to see it when it is

Fahhkin 'ell thats so cool man.

It totally sucks you in, I love paintings with a lot of depth.

You might want to bring out more highlights on the distant figures, not too much though.

Personally I like the half finished figures, a painting can look overcrowded with too much detail.

Post the completed work...

soon :

That rocks, Francis. Do you plan on removing the outlines?

It's all good to me. I only wish there were more of a pool of light in one area to add focus, but that's purely personal choice.

Awesome.

Whoaa! Breathtaking atmosphere you've captured here... Anywhere you look you'll find some nice detail!

Marvellous lightning, which I hope will be "stronger" or more "colorful" in the final.

I also like very much of the contrast on the architechture. Something from the past and something from the future.

How about adding some small trees/bushes/plants... They fit in quite nicely on scenery with lightning like this one. Think about it

Thumbs up mun!

Francis,
Here's what I meant by "pool" of light. Just my unsolicited opinion.

That's totally awesome Francis !

I love these kind of "sketches"...technical but still with life...like Moebius kind of.

I agree to What AliazMoze said. Also, maybe you could consider making a bit more color to the girl and the nearest layer, she kinds of blends too much in with the rest.

But still, a GREAT picture.

Btw, ever heard of the comicartist Juan Gimenez ? I guess..anyway, it really reminds me of that style.

I have to say that AliasMoze lightning looks better in the drawing, though there is somethings I don't like in that either (big surprise)...
For example the people below the girl should have a light, maybe turn the light thingy above the door to a spotlight? and have them illuminated but not to much of the sourroundings, unless ofcourse she's a spy and those are trying to meet in private. But then I'd "break" the light over the door.
It's a little to dark overall with that other lightning, though the greater contrast works great!
Maybe it should have just a tiny bit more colors, atleast the girl.

A really nice drawing overall!

*sigh* I have to get some drawing lessons...
