Maybe those kids got their urge to kill people from roleplaying and computer games ? |

The rest of it is indeed powerful, butt he kids don't look that good... I think it's the scanlining and the glow that makes them look a little cheap.

i think its too colorful. its kind of hard to focus on one area and i agree that the kids don't look great. i think it would be more powerful if you went with simpler colours. I just fiddled around for about 5 minutes, and this is what i came up with. Yeah, it sucks, but i think if you played around with the concept, it would make your image better.

great work, but i agree, the colors are a bit distracting. I think the text and picture is enough to get the point, no need to add additional text I think. |

Thanks everyone for you comments...they were hella more productive than what i got from my classmates.
affected and immi: the reason the kids look "scanlined" is because i wanted them to appear asif they were on television - what i feel the the influence for their violence. After i take it out of the catacombs of my jaz disk, i do agree tha they look a little shotty, but not b/c of the scan lines b/c they dont have bodies. Yeah, and the glow just seemed like a thing to do to make them seem like they were from a television.
immi: i never thought about the colors being too distracting until you mentioned it. I agree, it would be more powerful with simpler colors. That color you changed it to is killer! Niice, i like that!
i dont know what color i shall move to, maybe duotone.....arg i dont know. im gonna have to sit and screw with it.
Thanks again for your comments

really, i prefer the original colors for something like this...the overbright colors kind of emphasize the irony of the picture, and the fact that on the whole it takes on a red white and blue color scheme adds another layer of meaning to it. some of that was probably unintentional, but accidents are where a lot of my best work comes from.
maybe if you could make the sky a little more white, with blue/black in the dark areas of it (general dodged up blue color to the whole thing), i think that might make it look a little more like the social-critique/punkrock-angry sort of piece that i think you're looking for.
i don't know what to tell you about the kids. personally i think the kid images are a little too straightforward. don't beat your audience with a sledgehammer, make them think a little bit.
I might also lose the text, and let the image stand on it's own. no hand-holding. that's kind of like a comedian explaining why his jokes are supposed to be funny.
maybe a baby in a crib w/gun? or a kid with a lunchbox and one behind him holding a rifle case or something? i don't know, this is all just spur of the moment stuff.
i don't know if that helps any or not...nice image.
