Not my best work, but I still like it. I did this in one day over a course of 6 or 7 hours using Painter to make the woman and the background seperatly, then merged them in PhotoShop (I use Painter Classic, so it would of been harder to merge the two using that program).

This was done for my final project in my figure drawing class. The assignment was to take a previously done peice and base a new peice of artwork on it. Any media.

The woman is based off a charcoal and white conte drawing I did in class, and the snowy background is partially based off a photo my sister took of some place in europe. I scanned the drawing and just started painting right over it in Painter. The background I just painted with the photo in hand for reference.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm thinking I want to work on it more so it looks a little better.

The woman seems to be floating above the snow. I could be because of the hard edge of the womans body against the snow. Try softening the edges of the body and work with the lighting some more. I would also suggest repeating some of the colors that are in the womans body into the background.
Youre image is starting to look flat, think about your forground elements as well as your background elements, which is more important, which should have more detail, which should be darker or lighter. Ask yourself all these questions while or before you start painting. Preferably before
Example:
You have more detail in the background than you do in the forground (mountian top v/s rock edge on left of image)
keep at it, it will pay off

CA:

The figure is basically coherent, but I think the foreshortening in the legs are a little off. It seems that the top leg occupies the same space as the bottom (back) thigh, which is impossible, according to TIMECOP, where the two Joel Silvers smooshed into one big blobthing at the end, after Jean-Claude-Van-Damme kicked his younger self into the older one.

Anyways, getting back to topic, don't forget that snow clumps up in tufts, and might be deformed around the edges of the body from things like falling down, moving appendages, stepping around, etc. The amount of snow displacememt might add to the tension the figure is feeling.

Finally, her torso is much shinier than her legs. You might want to choose whether she is glistening with ice, or whether she is matte with goosebumps. One or the other, but not both, not without good reason.
