any help would be appreciated, thanks |

Go to basics. Draw a basic shape for the head and draw a center line down your face and look at it again. That should help. |

The face looks quite distorted.. (mouth, nose)I guess to draw a basic head shape over it would really help you get it fixed.

Well look at the nose. It doesn't line up with the mouth. It goes at more of an angle inside of straight forward. The eyes are almost okay... They go straight across instead of more of the slant with the face, and are a little too small for the face. So go ahead and do the basic head shape outline and it will show you where things need to be and about how big. |

good start, I would suggest that you work with the whole face first instead of trying to put the details in first. Look at the proportions of the face, use your own face as a reference. Try shading the entire head first, as if it where a wig makers model (sargent.)
It looks as if you started on the right and then worked your way across the image, this can lead to alot of mistakes in proportions and lighting.
A very good tip, rotate your image upside down, or flip it. You will start to see things you never noticed before.
you got a good start though, don't get discouraged, keep at it. If youhave to, start over, you'll learn more and more each time.
good luck.

The paint is in the way of seeing what is wrong, since the pencils can indicate how you approached the subject.
In this case, my guess would be lack of structure. While there is some room for exageration and modification of basic human proportions, you have to know the rules before you can break them.
First, I'd do the whole head and not just the face, even if you decide to cut the rest out of the frame to focus on the face.
Second, any beginner's art book will show you the proportions of the face. The head is 5 eye widths wide, the eyes fall half-way down the head, etc.
Start with a basic shape for the head, then work in details. Start big and work your way down. And keep it rough. Make sure the basic structure is right before you add the details, and make sure the drawing is right before you proceed to painting it.
Coloring wise, I'm only qualified to point our the obvious - you seem to be using only two colors, skin tone and a darker shade of skin tone.
Check out this self-portrait of Frezetta. Bold use of colors.
