I'd had some down time from my paying gig the other day, so I futzed around with pshop and came up with this. I did not use any scanned drawing or reference, so yeah, there may be some things technically wrong, however I was just killing time so I didn't want to be too serious. Tell me what you think???? I'm really curious to see if the realism factor in the rendering end of it is believeable.
So give it to me, I really want to hear what people think.

Hi there
I just looked briefly over you painting,
and I think that it's a nice piece of work.
Especially when done with a mouse, without
reference.
I think it would ad to the realism if the
painting had been a little less smooth.
Try making more sharp edges, even when doing
hazy stuff... make some layers of fog that
have sharper contrast, also it could use some
more details on the roof and floorboards.
Great work! post a link to the 1024x768 version...

GC, nice image.
I also use a mouse allot. I can't seem to draw straight with my tablet (Calcomp POS). |

Looks real nice. The only thing I could see that might be wrong is the lighting near the little piller things to the right. Since the fog looks thick in that area I would imagine it would disperse the lighting a little.. leaving faint shadows. Not saying it would be darker.. it would be slightly brighter actually. |

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I value all of your crits, here is the image at full res. Remember keep in mind that it is a work in progress. When I finish it I'll post it again.

Nice piece of art GC! I actually had the feeling of being there... nice.
BTW, no need for excuses like:
"... however I was just killing time so I didn't want to be too serious"
Because we all do our best to make a pic look as realistic as possible. Nobody likes to make a picture with an (for example) incorrect perspective. If you're not happy with the pic, don't say something like 'I was bored' or 'I did this in 2 hours'... There's nothing more educational than your own mistakes. We're not all Rembrandts
GC, the comment above is not personal. It's just something that's been bothering me for a while, and now seemed to be a nice time to bring it up Honestly, I like the picture very much...

Oscar, no prob with your comments, I just wanted to reflect that it's not my best work, honestly... It's not that I'm not happy with it, it's just that I wanted some good comments/critiques on what was there, plain and simple. I don't have a lot of time to devote to this kind of work cause most of it is taken up by my paying job, and at my job, I work with graphic designers who have no understanding of what is good and what is not good when it pertains to work such as my post. I simply wanted to see if my stuff was exceptable, since I can't get that feedback from my current out of touch peers.
By no means did I mean to come off like the disappointed or brooding artist, if it seemed that way please flog me unconscious.
But on the lighter side, I'm glad you liked the pic. |
